Rlngwood Resident Directs Gal Gasllte Players Show Mrs. Walter (Barb) Miller, Ring wood resident, has been commissioned to direct the comedy "The Paisley Con­ vertible" for the Gaslite Players of Twin Lakes, Wis. Mrs. Miller has acted in and directed such shows as "Li'l Abner", "The Music Man" and "Sound of Music". Her most recent local semi-pro work includes directing "Quiet Cries", assistant director, "Marriage Go Round", at McHenry Dinner theatre; assistant director, "Annie Get Your Gun"; director, "Evening of Theatre"; director Ten- thouse theatr£ at McHenry BIRTHS MCHENRY HOSPITAL A son was born to Mr. and Mrs. Kenneth Winkelhake, Wonder lake, Nov. 4. Mr. and Mrs. Kenneth Ozyuk, McHenry, became parents of a daughter, Nov. 4. Mr and Mrs. John Johnson, McHenry, are parents of a son, Nov. 6. HARVARD HOSPITAL Mr. and Mrs. Thomas O'Brien, Wonder Lake, became parents of a son, Nov. 7. County Fair; director for the bubbly musical, "Mame"; and director for the Gaslite Players' productions of "Never Too Late", "Fiddler on The Roof" and "South Pacific". Recreation Parlor, will be opened in the Smith building, West McHenry, this weekend by A.J. Langley of Racine, Wis., and Ed Lazzoronia of Lake Geneva, Wis. Mayor Wattles is scheduled to toss the first ball down the bowling alleys. Thomas P. Bolger has had an oil-o-matic heater installed in his drug store, installation being made by Hart Diggins of Woodstock. The McHenry Post of the American Legion is laying its plans for an observance of Armistice Day on Nov. 11 in this city at which time the Legion will present to the McHenry Community high school an 80-foot flagpole and a beautiful American flag. The husband and wife tournament which was played last Sunday at the McHenry Country Club was won by Mr. and Mrs. W.F. Vogt. Eighteen holes were played. A young mother, Mrs. Edwin M. Conway, passed away suddenly at the Woodstock hospital. Mrs. Conway had been a patient at that in­ stitution for about ten days having given birth to a baby daughter at that time. FORTY YEARS AGO (Taken from the files of Oct. 24, 1935) Among the recent newcomers to this vicinity is the general manager of the Chicago Cefttury of Progress, Major Lenox R. Lohr, who with his wife has purchased the Willis Kittle farm south of McHenry. The deal was made through Kent and company, realtors of McHenry. Martin H. Freund died at his home in Johnsburg Oct. 18 at the age of 76 years after a long illness. The first wedding ceremony to be solemnized in the new Catholic church in Mundelein took place Oct. 23 when Miss Gertrude Swandt of Liber- tyville and Mr. George Barbian of McHenry, were united in marriage. Mrs. Joanne Rulien and Miss May Justen are in Chicago where they are taking a course in interior decorating at the Art Institute. Sidney Smith, famous car­ toonist on the Chicago Tribune, creator of the Andy Gump comic strip, and a former summer resident at Chapel Hill north of McHenry, was killed instantly Sunday morning when his car collided with another auto on U.S. Route 14 south of Harvard. Math Steffes has sold his house on Grand avenue to Mrs. John Pitzen of Pistakee Bay. Mr. and Mrs. Lester Bacon, who have been living in the house, will move Nov. 1 and the place will be occupied by Mrs. Pitzen's daughter and husband, Mr. and Mrs. Louis Adams. Miss Bernice Smith of Ringwood, brought her horses home from her riding academy at Antioch Monday and served a fried chicken dinner to her riders. TWENTY-FIVE YEARS AGO (Taken from the files of Nov. 2, 1950) Pvt. Kenneth George Karls, 17, son of Mrs. Doris Karls, has begun a course of in­ doctrination training at Lackland Air Force base, "The Gateway to the Air Force", San Antonio, Tex. According to a report of the University of Illinois college of Agriculture, a group of thirty- seven purebred Holstein cows belonging to the Hickory Creek Farms, West McHenry, took sixth highest production record among 1,908 Dairy Herd Im­ provement association members in Illinois for Sep­ tember. The McHenry Business Men's association has donated the prize money for the ticket selling and poster contest for the "Frolics of 50" sponsored by the McHenry Community P.T.A. The McHenry Township Kiwanis club has again suc­ ceeded in bringing to McHenry an outstanding football celebrity as guest speaker at their annual football banquet on Nov. 16 in the person of Marshall Goldberg. He was the star of the University of Pitt­ sburg team under the coaching of John Sutterland. Goldberg was also one of the key players for the Cardinals for many years. Walter Low of Ringwood has been elected to serve McHenry Township as chairman of the crop program. In the rectory of St. John the Baptist church in Johnsburg on Saturday, Miss Helen Timm of Crystal Lake became the bride of Mr. James Oeffling of Johnsburg. Rev. Fr. Joseph Blitsch officiated at the nuptial ceremony. TEN YEARS AGO (Taken from the files of Oct. 28, 1965) Unhappy news came to residents of the west part of the city with a notice received by Postmaster Leroy Smith from the real estate section of the Chicago Region Post Office department to the effect that the lease of the West McHenry station had terminated and the office would be closed on Nov. 11. McHenry Legion Post No. 491 has announced sponsorship of its first annual Loyalty Day to ' be held in the city on Sunday, Nov. 7. Purpose of the program will be to signify support of the government policy in Vietnam and to recognize the efforts of the boys who are fighting there. At 2 o'clock, a parade is planned through McHenry to be cShcluded at the city park. On Oct. 20, a daughter was born to Mr. and Mrs. Charles Fish of Wonder Lake.
