PAGE 9 - PLAINDEALER-FRIDAY, NOVEMBER 21, 1975 SPECIAL WALTONS PROGRAM SET FOR THANKSGIVING A special two-hour broadcast of "The Waltons" will bring into dramatic focus the ex traordinary dimensions of this remarkable family when it is presented on the CBS television network station, Channel 2, Thanksgiving night, Nov. 27, at 7:00 p.m. This holiday telecast of the regularly scheduled series is being sponsored by McHenry State Bank through its mem bership in the American Bankers Association (ABA). Considered by many to be a classic TV family drama, The Waltons' Thanksgiving is estimated by CBS to earn a minimum 40 per cent share of the viewing population with the Emmy-Award winning script. The story finds the Waltons' r e g u l a r T h a n k s g i v i n g celebration sadly altered with the absence of John-Boy who is in the hospital. While preparing for scholarship and entrance examinations to the University of Virginia, John-Boy has also been working with his father in the mill. As a result of an ac cident there, he develops a blood clot which threatens his eyesight and even more fatal complications and forces him to miss the examinations as well as the traditional family Thanksgiving celebration. But being the Waltons, they find many things to be thankful for at their annual holiday dinner. E v e n t u a l l y , J o h n - B o y recovers and returns home -- which infinitely enhances the holiday's meaning and inspires the Walton family to give ; thanks by holding a second $ Thanksgiving dinner. This Thanksgiving special is one of several telecasts that will be sponsored by the ABA in cooperation with the McHenry State Bank. In February the fifth in a series of telecasts on the life of Abraham Lincoln will be seen on NBC, Channel 5, and Feb. 3-15 the ABA will sponsor the Winter Olympics games being held in Innsbruck, Austria. They must have a good share of the wanderlust in them, or they just might be part Gypsy, or it might be the call of romance. However, a few of the straying cats are neutered so the latter can't be the reason. We list a number of cats who have good homes and have left them and wandered off to the consternation of their owners who want them back. Helping Paws does its best to reunite pets with their owners, and to find homes for stray and abandoned animals. There are some "Found" pets on the list today and we hope their owners are equally anxious to have them back. The Helping Paws office is open Monday, Tuesday, Thursday, and Friday from 10 to noon and from 1 to 3 p.m. On Wed nesdays, the office is open from 10 to n6on only. The telephone number is 459-2641. RESTFULNESS, LOW KEY VACATIONS ARE BAHAMA OUT ISLANDS' APPEAL NASSAU, Bahamas Nassau and Freeport come first to mind when one thinks of the Bahamas. But there's a whole other world awaiting vactioners in the island country: 700 slow-paced, beautiful Out Islands. Stretching from the southeast coast of Florida down almost 500 miles through the Tropic of Cancer to Hispaniola, the Bahamas is a lacy string of islets, atolls and cays, un spoiled and retaining ' a gracious West Indian "coun tryside" culture that has persisted for centuries. The Abacos in the northwest were first settled by Loyalist refugees fleeing the American War of Independence. The hardy, seafaring villages of Hope Town, New Plymouth, Man o' War Cay and Green Turle Cay are rich in reminiscences of New England. f Bimini, closest to Florida, is the sports fishing capital of the world, where more than 50 world records have seen set. Ernest Hemingway once made his home in the sleepy set tlement of Alice Town here. Eleuthera was the site of the first permanent settlement in the Bahamas (founded in 1647 - just a few years after the landing at Plymouth Rock). Today it is an island for golf, tennis or water sports in a disposition, and is black. 455- 1453. CATS FOR ADOPTION Black and white, this young adult female cat is medium size. She is housebroken and likes children. 459-5564. A black and brown tiger striped kitten with a fluffy coat is housebroken and good with children. She is about 4 months old. 312-639-4929. She will love you and you will love her because she is very affectionate. This solid gray Domestic cat is about 3 years old. 455-1186. A male orange Tabby, 3 to 4 months old, is housebroken and good with children. He's orange with a white chest and white paws. Call 459-3800 days; 459- 7854 evenings. She's very friendly and nice to have around the house because she is housebroken and gets along with children. This black and white Domestic cat is 3 months old. 385-6059.. A female, Domestic cat, won't present you with a litter because she has been spayed, and is used to the outdoors. She's about lVa years old, black with a small white spot on her chest and has her shots. 385- 4969. A young female cat, perhaps 6 to 8 months old, is a Siamese- Domestic mix. She has the Siamese face with green, eyes. She is not housebroken and may be pregnant. 459-9223. LOST AND FOUND Lost; a male Miniature Schnauzer with clipped gray and silver curly hair. He was wearing a collar and was lost near Sunnyside. 385-7233. slightly secluded country-club atmosphere. Andros, the largest on the Bahamas chain, is a little more rustic and offers some of the best ^cuba diving and fishing along the world's third largest barrier reed. % Further to the south lies the historic island of San Salvador where the New World began in 1492. Aside from the beach which Columbus kissed four centuries ago, San Salvador also has the ruins of Loyalist plantations, the remains of Arawak Indian campsites and excellent reef diving. The more remote islands like Inagua and Mayaguana are for those who don't mind roughing it a bit in small guest houses and who won't miss an active night life. Great Inagua, a biologist's paradise, has one of the last remaining flocks of West Indian Flamingos in its vast interior marshland - some 20,000 of them. Many of the southern islands are known for their production of solar salt because of the year-round sun. LAS VEGAS THANKSGIVING dountxy dCub 820 N. John McHenry III.
