MCC Hosts Conference-Tour Seek Volunteers For NIPC Lakes Clean-Up Committee PAGE 17 - PLAINDEALER-FRIDAY, NOVEMBER 21, 1975 guest speaKer at the Union convention that day. Candy is the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. William J. Bolger oL McHenry. The 1975 McHenry County High School-College Articulation conference in the area of Humanities and Communications was held recently and hosted by McHenry County college. The group was welcomed by Bob Bartlett, dean of instruction for MCC. Bartiett discussed the impact of the new college site. Because of better facilities resulting in better serving the student, the enrollment is expected to increase. j Environmentalists, public interest groups and citizens who want to end water pollution in northeastern Illinois are being encouraged to join a new effort to clean up the area's lakes and streams. The Northeastern Illinois Planning commission (NIPC) is seeking qualified volunteers for an advisory committee that will help develop a regional plan to deal with the area's water quality problems. The clean water planning project, expected to involve hundreds of municipal and county officials, environmental and public interest groups and citizens, is financed by a $7.3 million federal grant. The funds were allocated to NIPC, the official planning agency for Cook, DuPage, Kane, Lake, McHenry, and Will counties, under Section 208 of the Federal W&ter Pollution Control act amendments of 1972. Section 208 calls for the development of regional solutions to water quality problems in heavily urbanized areas. Widespread public in volvement is required to insure that the region's plan is technically, economically and politically realistic. During the next month NIPC will organize an advisory group to be known as the Areawide Planning Advisory committee (APAC), which will focus on water quality planning at the regional level. Other in volvement networks will be established for those who are interested primarily in specific parts of the region or in specific bodies of water. Nominations for membership on the APAC are being sought by NIPC until Dec. 1. For mation of other advisory bodies will begin at a later date. Prospective APAC members should submit a brief description of their background and interest in water quality planning to Commissioner William Fonvielle, Nor theastern Illinois Planning commission, 10 So. Riverside Plaza, Chicago, IL., 60606 Applications should include name, address and phone number. The commission will review applications during November and early December and form the APAC by mid-December. Other committees will be formed at the county and regional levels for individuals with technical expertise, necessary to water pollution control. In addition, municipal and county governments will be represented in the Local Steering committees that will coordinate 208 planning in each county. Area residents interested in more information about APAC, or other public participation in the 208 program, should call (312) 454-0400 and ask for "208 Public Participation."
