ALGONQUIN THIRTY FIVE Farmers Will Express Views On Major Issues Illinois farmers' viewpoint on national farm policy, the federal food stamp program, government interference with foreign trade, and the energy crisis are but a few of many major topics up for discussion during the Illinois Farm Bureau's sixty-first annual meeting in Chicago Palmer House December 10-13. Policy considerations will cover a wide range of issues which face not only farm families but the general public as well. Adoption of policy resolutions to guide Farm Bureau in the coming year will be the main business of the IFB annual meeting. Throughout the year, Farm Bureau members have had an opportunity to express ^heir viewpoints in local and county meetings. Viewpoints of individual m e m b e r s a n d l o c a l F a r m Bureau units have been distilled into a set of seventy- seven tentative resolutions on a w i d e r a n g e o f s t a t e a n d n a t i o n a l i s s u e s a n d f a r m marketing and member service matters. These resolutions, and others which may be offered in floor discussions, will be acted Recognize 4-H Achievement upon by 475 voting delegates. These delegates not only determine the policies but elect the farmer-directors who carry out the policies. County and bi-county Farm Bureaus determine their own policies on matters of %a local nature.- At the state Farm Bureau annual meeting, resolutions adopted on state matters will serve as the organization's guide for programs and services during the coming year. Thosei resolutions on national matters will be the IFB's recom mendations to the American Farm Bureau Federation for establishment of national policies to be adopted by AFBF voting delegates at the meeting in St. Louis, Mo., January 5-8, 1976. The Illinois Farm Bureau is the largest general farm organization in the state with a current membership of 227,960 families, of which 141,059 are voting members. In Farm Bureau, a voting member is one who is actively engaged in agriculture as an operator of a farm or having a definite in terest in sharing returns of a farm.
