If you are one of the thousands of Illinois residents who are landlords or tenants of rental property, the Illinois State Bar association says you should be aware of the statutory requirements of notice-you must serve prior to a legal termination of your lease. Notice serves the important function of making the other party aware that a new place to rent or new tenants must be found. These statutes were designed to protect all parties to the lease when termination is required. When the rental is for a certain period, the tenant is bound to give up possession on that date and no notice to quit or demand for possession is necessary. But when the lease is based on a week-to-week or some other period-to-period basis, the requirements of notice apply. These requirements are as follows as to Period of Lease and Notice Required: A. Week-to-week "- 7 days. B. Greater than week-to- week but less than year-to-year - 30 days. C. Year-to-year - 60 days. BjMPy Feature Packed Built-in Potscrubber™ Dishwasher!
