McHenry Area Churches Entered By Burglars The church and rectory of Christ the King Catholic church, 5006 E. Wonder Lake road, Wonder Lake, were en­ tered sometime Sunday night and about $700 in cash and $300 in checks were taken. Entry was made to the rectory by breaking the glass in a rear door. A window had also been broken at the rear of the church Other glass windows were broken in the interior of the church to gain access to other rooms. It was not immediately determined whether anything had been taken from the church itself. Alliance Bible church at 3815 W. Bull Valley road, McHenry, was entered sometime Monday and $30 in cash was taken from a desk. A basement window had been pried open to gain entry to the building. Sometime last Thursday night, intruders entered Smith's Central Garage at 2303 W. Johnsburg road, McHenry, and took a 1976 white Corvette, a new auto with no license plates. The vehicle was driven from the scene and the offender closed the garage door after removing the auto. Deaths JOSEPH J. VAVRIK A funeral Mass will be of­ fered at 10 o'clock Friday morning in St. Patrick's Catholic church for Joseph J. Vavrik, 66. Mr. Vavrik, a resident of 2016 N. Orchard Beach road, McHenry, died Tuesday, Dec. 16, in Sherman hospital, Elgin. The deceased was born April 1, 1909, in Chicago. Survivors are his wife, Elizabeth (Ciganek); one daughter, Elizabeth, at home; three sons, Robert and William of McHenry and James of Downers Grove; six grand­ children; one, sister, Mary Kadlec, and / brother, Frank A., both pK Chicago. A son, Joseph Vavrik, III, preceded him in-d£ath in March of 1971. The body rests at the George R. Justen & Son chapel. Burial will be in St. Patrick's Coun­ tryside cemetery. When Emil Riedlinger of 724 Rand road, McHenry, returned home from work last Friday night, he discovered his home had been burglarized. Taken from the premises were a stereo unit with speakers, a portable television set, a stereo tape player, a gallon jar con­ taining about $100 in change, a piggy bank containing about $100 in quarters and several articles of photography equipment, as well as other equipment. A box containing assorted tools was taken from a van owned by Robert Riordan of 2711 Russett road, McHenry, sometime after Dec. 14. The vehicle was parked at his residence when the theft oc­ curred. Last weekend, Burdette Thomson of 2703 Manitou trail, McHenry, told deputies her vehicle had been entered and a tape player was taken from inside. An auto owned by Joseph Savage of 514 Hunt street, Ingleside, was stolen while parked in the driveway at the Carl Heggeland residence, 106 Navajo trail, McHenry, last Saturday night. Heggeland's auto was also entered and a leather sample case was taken. Savage's auto was later found abandoned on property where it had gone through a fence on Manitou trail in Lake county, causing some damage to the vehicle. Warren Bornhoeft of 923 Rolling lane, McHenry, reported that sometime since Dec. 8, an offender entered his o patio and stole two water skis from the premises. A citizens' band radio was taken from the auto of Timothy Rice of 702 Nancy lane, McHenry, while it was parked at McHenry Recreation last Thursday. William Schult of 2707 Cherry drive, Wonder Lake, informed authorities that four strings of Christmas tree lights were taken from a tree in their yard last Thursday. A small evergreen tree was taken from the yard of Claudia Straza at 2714 Stilling b o u l e v a r d , M c H e n r y , sometime Dec. 11. Lights were also removed from a larger tree at the home. It was believed area children might be responsible. Gasoline was syphoned from two vehicles parked at the Joseph Brzoska residence, 8211 Wilmot road, Spring Grove, during the early morning hours of last Saturday. Norb Konczak of 4502 H i c k o r y w a y , M c H e n r y , reported that someone had broken into his mobile home and stolen a citizen band radio. The vehicle was parked in his driveway when the theft oc­ curred. Establish Fund At Church For Fire Victims- A fund has been established at the First United Methodist church for the benefit of Mr. and Mrs. Van Kennedy, whose home and possessions were destroyed in the explosion and fire that occurred during the night of Dec. 1. Contributions may be sent to the church office at 3717 W. Main street, McHenry. Mr. and Mrs. Kennedy are still in the Evanston hospital suffering the after effects of burns, smoke inhalation and shock.
