Crystal Lake Club Needs Crystal Lake Hockey club for boys from 6 to 16 are needed to fill the rosters of the teams that compete in the Barrington Area Hockey League. Teams are divided by age group-Mites, under 9; Squirts, 9 and 10; PeeWees, 11 and 12; Bantams, 13 and 14; Midgets, 15, 16, and 17. The Club ex­ panded to 7 teams sponsored by Material Service, Branded Steak House, Durbin-Stovall Hockey Skaters Realty, GK Industries, Foremost, Esses-Costello Realty, and Reichert. This third year of operation is an expansion year to make room for more boys on more teams. But now with the season just under way, rosters are still short several boys. Novice skaters are welcome, as many practice hours are provided during the season that goes through April. Koerber hit on 9 field goals and 3 free throws for 21 points in the Warrior conference win over the Tigers last Friday night. Other Warrior in picture is guard Tom Ludwig. (STAFF PHOTO-WAYNE GAYLORD) Warriors Defeat Inspired Tigers 74-66 By Dick Rabbitt The Crystal Lake Tigers, playing their first game under new coach Steve Wilson, bat­ tled the McHenry Warriors before going down to defeat 74 to 66 on their home floor Friday night. Wilson taking over from John Swenson who resigned Monday had his Tigers up for the game. The Warriors started out and jumped out to an 8 to 8 lead before the Tigers could get in the scoring column. With 4:30 remaining in the period Lund put the Warriors ahead 12 to 2 and it looked as if the Warriors would blow the Tigers right out of the fieldhouse. However, the Tigers stuck in there and trailed 20 to 12 at the end of the period. The Warriors missed three easy layups that could have literally broken the game wide open in the initial period. The two teams battled on even terms throughout the second period, but noticeable in the Warrior attack was that "Radar" Reilly was beginning to hit the hoop. The teams walked off at the intermission with the Warriors leading 38 to 30. TIGER SPURT After Koerber and Ludwig each made a basket to give the Warrior a more comfortable lead, the Tigers began to peck away at the Warrior's shaky defense. With O'Neil and Pearson hitting from 12 ft. out the Tigers cut the Warrior lead to a mere 2 at the period trailing 53 to 51. RADAR TAKES OVER C In the final period Reilly took complete charge of the game. The senior guard of the Warriors put on a dazzling display of shooting, hitting for 6 of 7 from the field. With Decker, Koerber and Lund sweeping the boards the Warriors made their move, but not until the Tigers took a 63 to 61 lead with 5:30 remaining. At 1:51 of the game Koerber's turn around jump shot put the Warriors ahead 72 to 64 and , that was the ball game. Again the Warriors had one bad quarter, this time it was the third period. During the other three periods the Warriors looked like a super team. During the early going their defense and fast break worked to perfection. The passing of Reilly, Ludwig and Lund time and time again caught the Tigers napping on defense. However, the Warriors seem to lack the killer instinct. Once they get this formula watch out. It was a good game to watch from a fan standpoint. However, the coaches may think otherwise. The Warrior side of the fieldhouse was packed, and the noise was loud and clear. A spirited group of alumni really urged the Warrior crowd on, and they responded as only a Warrior crowd can do at a basketball game. Although they were not shooting well, the Mustangs got big scoring when they needed it. The well- balanced attack featured 7 points by Ron Waytula, 6 by Tom Balchunas, 5 by Mike Sharp, 4 by Tim Sabatka, 3 by Bob Moehling and 2 each by Jeff Huff and Dwight Schmitt. Butch Pintozzi grabbed 5 big rebounds in the important 4th quarter stand. Sabatka led all rebounders with 8. The 7th grade lost a close one 29-26.
