Aside from that, Tony is a real nice fellow. Had the usual fun at the Plaindealer party for em­ ployees at McHenry Country Club. After the fun and feast, we had a visit with Mary Garylord. (She's a Sox fan all the way). The Gaylords have rocking chairs in their home and Wayne was supposed to have invited us down long ago to rock the baby. Now Mary is going to make the arrangements. Wayne had a special bottle put away for our visit --then took a sip from time to time to be sure it wasn't spoiled. All gone! The Warriors had their hands full in beating the Crystal Lake Tiger basketball team, but came through like champions when the chips were down. Coach Ludwig has balance on this squad, with some good players on the bench to put in when needed. This isn't a 5 - man team. It isn't easy to hear that a friend for the last half a century has suddenly passed away. Not that we saw him daily, but friendly notes from Harry Eckland came many times as a boost to our confidence both in writing a column and in our duties as a public servant. Somehow, we think old friends will stay around forever. When the Good Lord calls one home, it leaves an emptiness that doesn't go away. You never replace an old friend. The best you can do is substitute. Guess we didn't tire Gary Collins out too much with his weight lifting during the football season. Gary is doing another good job with the sophomore basketball team. They just finished the Roupd- Robin tournament here as the No. 1 team. That's good! Congratulations. Matt Schuster remained unbeaten in 8 matches as he defeated Tim Phalin of Crystal Lake by the score of 12 to 1. Lynne Peterson, Dan Freund, Tom Lundelius, Tom Hutchinson and Brian Nuss all had pins for the Warriors. The J.V.'s won 51 to 14. Jeff Hurckes remained undefeated at 112 lbs., as he pinned Ken Bertel of the Tigers. Brian DiBlasi, Bob Beck, Mike Fink, and Don Rice all had pins for the J.V.'s. Tim Fink, Mike Mai, and Bob Seaton also won for the J.V.'s. The freshmen lost 30 to 25. Wally Berry had the only pin for the Warriors.
