Women For Russian Exchange Program fifteen young men and women are being sought to participate in an exchange program with the Soviet Union, assistant state 4-H program leader. The six-month program is not a tour, but rather an educational program planned by the Soviet Ministry of Agriculture, explains Wetzel. This is the first time Americans will have been permitted to live on Soviet farms. Delegates selected to par ticipate in the program will spend 14 weeks learning the Russian language prior to departing the U.S. In Russia, tlie exchangees will be given a language refresher while living at the Belorussia Agricultural Academy near Minsh. Delegates will visit research institutes, tractor manufac turing plants, and other agricultural operations prior to their-experience of living and working on state and collective farms in western Soviet Union. Candidates seeking ad mission to the program must be between 20 and 30 years of age, hold a degree in agriculture, have rural-farm experience and interest, and know the Russian language or have an aptitude to learn it. Upon returning to the United States, delegates will be ex pected to share their ex periences with interested groups and individuals, adds Wetzel. Negotiations for this ex change program began in the early 1960's, continues Wetzel. In 1974, the Chase Manhattan Bank provided & develop mental grant to the 4-H Foundation which resulted in the signing of an agreement with Deputy Minister of Agriculture Boris Runor last month. . The exchange program is being sponsored by cor porations and the U.S. Department of State. Applications are due January 1, 1976, and may be obtained from the state 4-H offite, 47 Mumford Hall, Urbana, IL 61801. Language instruction will, begin March 8 with departure for Russia scheduled for June 12. Delegates will return to the U.S. on Sept. 6. He extends his baseball interest to the Little League in Wonder Lake during the summer months, but during the winter months he has the job of head timer for the Parkland basketball games. The sixth grade students in Industrial Arts concentrate on perspective drawing, basket weaving, and stick craft. The seventh grade students are involved in leather craft, with the eighth grade developing in woodworking.
