The Warriors opened the tourney with an impressive 64 to 35 victory over Zion Benton who came into the tournament with a 8 and 1 record. In the second game the young Warriors lost a torrid shoot-out with Waukeggto West 69 to 55. The Warriors nit for 48 percent from the floor, but the home team connected for 58 percent mostly from the outside. In the third place game the Warriors led by as much as 15 points, and held on to bring home the third place trophy. Don Bentz led the Warriors in scoring in the three games. He scored 66 pts. and dominated the boards in all three games. Dan Schaeffer contributed with excellent defense. Scott Dixon scored in double figures in all three games, and Pete Prust's passing ignited several fast breaks. Jim Schully came off the bench and scored 10 pts. in the final game. (STAFF PHOTO-WAYNE GAYLORD) Home Doubleheader For Warriors This Weekend By Dick Rabbitt The McHenry High Warriors with a nifty 11 and 1 record rejturn to the friendly confines of Buckner Gym for a brace of game this weekend. The Warriors fresh from the Kankakee Holiday cham­ pionship take on the Mustangs from Mundelein tonight at 8:00 P.M. The Mustangs are led by the North Subufban conference scoring leader Greg Boyle a 5'8" junior guard who is averaging a little over 24 points per game in conference play. The only other letterman returning to Coach Dick Starkey's Mundelein team is 6'2" senior forward Paul Hering. Rounding out the starting five is junior guard 5'10'y Kevin Elfering, senior forward 6'2" Dale Traxler, and 6'5" sophomore center Don Hutchinson. Mundelein is 1 and 3 in the North Suburban this year. Last year at Mundelein the Warriors won 94 to 55. MARIAN HERE SAT. NITE On Saturday night an old rival, the Hurricanes of Marian, will invade West Campus. Coach Bud Grover's "Hurricanes" have won their last two outings after having gone 0 for 7 early in the season. This game always has a bit of local flavor, as Marian always has some McHenry boys in the starting lineup. Mike Tonyon a 6'0 senior is back for his third season on the varsity squad. Jeff Grover the coach's son is the teams leading scorer, along with Mike Nitz, along with Kevin Coughlin. Rounding out the starting lineup is sophomore center 6'1" Jim Ringness. In this game you can throw out the season records, it is always a good game, and although the Warriors have won the past three outings, the games have down to the wire. Both coaches will go all out to win, and if you are a real basketball fan you won't want to miss this game.
