The Sidelines IS by Otck «aHH( Congratulations to Coaches Ludwing and Partenheimer and the Warriors for winning the Kankakee Holiday , Playing four games in three days and out iv ™stlmg every opponent shows the kind of shape these hoys are in, and their caliber of play. They put on quite a display for the Kankakee folks, and were by far the class team of the tournament. A tip of the fedora goes to Steve Koerber who was picked as the tourney's Most Valuable Player. It went unnoticed to most of us but Steve hit the 1,000 career point total with his final free throw against Marian Catholic. Steve came back and picked up 22 more against Kankaee Eastridge in the final game and now totals, 1,022 for his career as a Warrior. In checking the records it seems as if Steve is the first Warrior in history to gather in 1,000 points. It averages out to nearly 20 points per game every game Steve has played, and all I can add is that is some shooting. The Warriors had a good year in 1975. They went 20 and 2, losing to Rockford Harlem in double overtime last March in the Sectional, and losing their opening game this season to West Aurora. They had a 15 game winning streak broken by Harlem, and now have an 11 game string going into tonight's game against Mundelein. I have been asked a question I cannot answer. Why don't the Warriors have more fans at their home games? The crowds have been pretty slim this season. The Upper Gym has not been opened since "Orange Nite" last season against Crystal Lake. I would like to pose this question to you so called fans? Last year in the Belvidere Regional and the Rockford Sectional we had over 1,000 fans in attendance. Yet we have a winning team and can muster students and adults alike about 500 or so people at home games. With 2,300 students the gym should be packed every night there is a game, and along with the fair weather fans standing room only should be a reality. Zion, North Chicago, and Libertyville have full houses at every game, surely oursfans are as faithful and loyal as those fans. It would be different if the team was 1 and 11, but the situation is just reversed. Let's back this fine Warrior team. For you wrestling fans the Warriors of Marty Sobczak are at Mundelein tonight. They had a fine tournament at Harvard, and would like your support also. Several weeks ago we mentioned the generosity of both the cross country and football squads in regards to the cheerleaders. It has come to my attention that the cheerleaders instead of giving one another gifts at their annual Christmas Party, took the money and provided a needy family in the area with food and gifts. Who says our young people in McHenry are a selfish lot? I'm sure the family appreciated this gesture, and know the girls will feel better for it. Sure hope that our friend Marie will not stay too inactive. Will miss her smile and pleasant hello at the Plaindealer office. She turned many mistakes on the sport pages into something readable. I speak from experience. Our man about town Wayne Gaylord put up his slippers and trotted down to the finals of the Kankakee tourney. I can't believe that his good wife Mary did all the driving, especially in that weather. Warriors are rated 14th in Chicago Area and 21st in the State Ratings for class AA schools. In checking the records we find that McHenry High entered Ihe North Suburban in the fall of 1953. Their first conference win was over Zion Benton by the score of 45 to 44. ' In their first season in the conference the Warriors finished 7 and 7 With Cliff Fulton at the helm. Barrington won the title with a 14 and 0 record. Other teams in the league were: Crystal Lake, Lake Forest, Warren, Libertyville, and Woodstock. Here is the lineup for the first Warrior win in the North Suburban. He can be reached by phone at (312 ) 527-0747, week days only between 8 a.m. and 4:30 p.m. An educated man can argue without losing his temper- and without resort ing to abusive adjectives. A comprehensive report on p r o p o s e d c o u n t y - w i d e legislation affecting ownership of horses will be given at the annual meeting of the McHenry C o u n t y H o r s e m e n ' s association, scheduled for Sunday, Jan. 11. The meeting will begin at l p.m. at Exhibit Hall D of the McHenry county fairgrounds, located on High way 47 in Woodstock. The program for the meeting also includes featured talks by officials of the Illinois Hooved Animal Humane society and reports by members of the MCHA Executive board. Members of the association and all other owners of horses affected by the- proposed legislation are encouraged to attend the meeting. The proposed ordinance particularly applies to (Miners of horses and dogs^ and operators of stables and ken nels, both private and com mercial,- said Ross Poore, resident of the McHenry y H o r s e m e n ' s associatton. "It appears to us that there is a serious effort under* way to zone horses out of the county," Poore said. "While this new legislation is quite different than the or dinance written two years ago, the intent essentially is the same." Poore said it is likely the legislation will come before various township bodies for discussion and a vote in the coming weeks and months. He urged concerned residents to be alert to meetings in their townships. A slide presentation on cases that have come before the Illinois Hooved Animal Humane society will be given at the MCHA annual meeting by Ann Daugherty, an investigator for the soceity. She will be introduced by Lillian Wirtz, McHenry county investigator. Cape Gulbransen, president of the society, will outline steps to take in bringing animal abuses to the attention of the Society. A question and answer session will follow their presentations. . Also at the meeting, mem bers of the MCHA executive board will give a full report on their acitivities for 1975. Introduced at the meeting will be plans for 1976 programs "We're enlarging our activities and redesigning the association to give all the members an opportunity to participate in activities of special interest to them," Poore explained. "Until now, the main acitivity of the association has been providing information on legislation and other matters affecting horse owners. We will be expanding this acitvity while beginning many new programs," Poore said.
