The program lasted forty-five minutes and a telephone number flashed on the screen for any interested prospective parent or parents to call. Pat graduated from .McHenry high in 1964, and from Northern Illinois university ih 1968. After a year with the Social Security office in Chicago, she started to work for -the Illinois Department of Children and Family Services. Following a year with that agency, she was granted a full two-year scholarship at Washington university in St. Louis to take a Master's degree in Social Services. After graduation she returned to the department. Advanced English Offered At MCC As Second Language McHenry County college is offering a new English course for the spring semester, which began Jan. 12. The course is intended to meet the needs of foreign students enrolled at the college. The main focus of the course will be vocabulary development and mastery of j syntax. Attention will be given i to reading and writing, j Students will be admitted to J this course on the recom- ! mendation of a teacher or counselor. Students who are not enrolled in regular college * courses will be required to demonstrate a certain proficiency in reading and a fluency in speaking English. This course is not limited to full-time students at the college. Any resident of the college district who is 18 or older, especially foreign-born adults residing in the county, may take advantage of this course. The class will meet Monday and Wednesday from 4 to 6 p.m. at the interim campus in Crystal Lake. Starting Jan. 27, the course will also be offered at Marian Central high school in Wood stock and continue on Tuesdays and Thursdays from 7 to 9 p.m. It is hoped that the Marian section will appeal to foreign- born adults who wish to upgrade their English skills, especially reading and writing. "This is the best Christmas present anyone could give me"" and the 4-H'ers felt they had done their job well. In a preceding business meeting it was voted that the MfVlenry County 4-H federation should donate $200 to the Illinois 4-H foundation Monies are .donated to the foundation, and in turn these funds are distributed to new and existing 4-H programs. In 1975 Sybaquay Girl Scouts sold 180,000 boxes and they hope to top that by meeting the 200,000 box goal set for this year. Tom Franklin, of Elgin, is serving as Sybaquay council Cookie chairman. Along with his committee, he has been planning for a successful sale. The profits from this sale go toward building and main taining camps as well as enabling individual troops to finance their o^n activities. Franklin and his committee feel that girls will also be learning about merchandising, salesmanship, banking, and public courtesy. A kick-off cookie luncheon and orientation meeting on Jan 14. marks the beginning of the sale. At this time all neigh borhood cookie chairmen receive materials and in structions.
