Final competition will be held Monday evening, Jan. 19, at Springfield. (DON PEASLEY PHOTOGRAPHY) Miss Barbara Tymec, Woodstock^ will head the McHenry county delegation to the annual meeting of the Association of Illinois County Fairs which starts Saturday, Jan. 17. Miss Tymec, reigning Miss McHenry County, is one of the candidates in the Miss Illinois County Fair contest, held in conjunction with this association's annual meeting. The convention is held in Springfield Jan. 17-19. The final contest will be held Monday night at the Springfield Ar­ mory. McHenry County Fair association officials meanwhile will attend the convention, where a wide range of topics will be discussed. Contacts with various entertainment and special attractions are often made during this convention. State agricultural officials will appear before the group. Miss Tymec, 20, began her quest for the Miss Illinois County Fair honor by winning the Miss Woodstock contest last summer. Barbara advanced a step further in capturing the Miss McHenry County title at the McHenry County Fair in August over a field of twelve candidates. She is sponsored at this state­ wide contest by the McHenry County Fair association. Barbara, who has blond hair and blue-green eyes, stands 5 feet. 8 inches tall, weights 125 pounds and measures 35-24-35. A junior at the University of Illinois, Champaign, she enjoys jogging, bicycling, swimming and music. Barbara aspires to J a career in accounting with the ^ hope of becoming a C P A. Mr and Mrs. John Tymec, parents of Barbara, will be in Springfield to see their daughter compete in the finals. Mrs Dorothy Kleckner and Mrs. Linda Duval, co-chairmari for the Miss McHenry County pageant last year, will be in attendance to assist Barbara. Mrs. ^Klechner has served as chairman of this contest in McHenry county for the past several years. RECIPE By Sarah Anne Sheridan Apples are rated high in nutrition and are delicious cooked or eaten raw. The apple season is reaching its peak and this is a good time to line up your favor­ ite recipes. Apple Pan Dowdy 41 large tart apples /rjsliced thin V4 c brown sugar 1 c cake flour 1 T baking powder pinch of salt V* c melted butter Vi c white sugar 1 egg Yt c sweet milk 1 t lemon juice grated rind from one lemon \ Arrange sliced apples in heavy pan. Sprinkle the brown sugar evenly over them. Stir white sugar into melted butter and add un­ beaten egg and mix well. Add combined dry ingredi­ ents alternately with milk. Then fold in lemon juice and rind. Pour this mixture over apples and bake in 350-degree oven for 30 min­ utes, or until batter is done. Serve warm,topped with ice cream or whipped cream. They have lived more than forty-five of the fifty married ye&rs in McHenry. The occasion was celebrated at the Legion home during the holiday season, with a dinner and reception Thirty-two guests attended, including a few close friends, some neigh­ bors. their two daughters, who gave the party for them, a brother and sister of ,cMrs. Miller, a sister of Mr. Miller, a nieces and three of their six grandchildren. Among out-of-town guests from Chicago were the best man and his wife, Tony and Hazel Miller, and the maid of honor and her husband, Ida and Al Muenzenthaler. The latter, a commercial artist, presented the couple with a lively seascape he had painted. Also attending from Chicago were a niece and her husband, Diane and Ron Aron, the latter bringing his accordion and playing old songs of the 1920 and 1930 era that the honored couple remembered so well. Others from out-of-town present were Mr. and Mrs. Tom Nickols of Round Lake and Mr. and Mrs. Ben Smith of Spring Grove. Mrs. Smith is a sister of Mr. Miller. Attending from out-of-state was the mayor of Hastings, Minn., husband of the Millers' oldest daughter, Florence; Mr. and Mrs. Gunnard Anderson of Plymouth, Ind., and Mr. and Mrs. Raymond Wisniewski who moved to San Antonio, Texas, early last Fall. Gunnard An­ derson is a brother of Mrs. Miller and Valorie Wisniewski is a granddaughter of the couple. Lovely table decorations and an unusual centerpiece, a three-tiered wedding cake The Senior Citizens club of Wonder Lake met Jan 5. when sixty-eight members signed up and paid their dues The new by-laws were read and were adopted The by-laws state a member must be 60 years or older, but if spouse is under 60. they will receive an honorary member card, but will not be allowed to vote on any issues brought up. Marie Lamont was appointed chairman for the Social committee, ip charge of refreshments. After the meeting was closed, refreshments were served, and some members played cards. The next meeting will be Jan. 19 at the Nativity Lutheran church in Wonder Lake New Home Economics Adviser Is Welcomed summer assistant in Home Economics. This past fay she did substitute teaching in Bloomington, Ind. The main responsibilities of the new adviser ^ill center around youth activities. Ann will also be involved in Home Economics, adult education. The McHenry Cooperative Extension service is located at 11909 McConnell road, Wood­ stock. The field office of the university is staffed by four university personnel and two secretaries. These university personnel serve the areas of Agriculture. Home Economics and Youth. ANN McARDLE Bo McConnell of Harvard. 4- H Youth Extension Council chairman, and David Gardner of Solon Mills, executive Ex­ tension council chairman of the University of Illinois Cooperative Extension Service in McHenry county, welcome Ann McArdle, the new Ex­ tension adviser in Home Economics. Ms. McArdle is a May, 1975, graduate of_ Eastern Illinois university and received a B.S. degree in Home Economics, Education. She specialized in Foods and Nutrition and Child Development. Having student-taught in Effingham, III., Ann remained in that area and was employed by the Effingham Cooperative Extension service as the made of white mums and sweetheart rosebuds, were made ando presented to the couple by their oldest grand­ daughter, Marie Bykowski.
