One Student Tells Results Of Education (by Kathy Kittl, senior student, in West campus Marketing class). Have you ever wondered what some of the courses at McHenry high school are, about? What the students are learning to do? Well I'm going to tell you about two classes that are being taught. The first one, is Building Trades. In this class the boys learn to build a house. They start from blueprints and through class are taught how to build a house. The house that the class made in 1975 is in North. Fox Ridge, located behind^West campus. This L- shaped ranch house has three bedrooms, kitchen, dinette, living room, two baths, full basement, two-car garage, and a nice size lot. This house was built with almost $38,000 worth of materials. The boys have put in several hundred hours of work to get the house done. Another class that is being 'vtaught is Marketing and Distribution. In this class, the students learn how to sell a product and how businesses operate. One project the class has is to try to sell the Building Trades house. The students are all taking part in this project by giving their ideas on how to sell the house. The students decided to hold an open house for the public Jan. 17 and 18from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. The house is located at 902 Front Royal, behind West campus. During this time the students will explain any questions anyone has about the house after seeing it. This is an invitation to the public to come and see what the students of the community are learning. So if you are interested and have time, why don't you stop by and see the house? STUDENT HONORED Timothy D. Tonyan of McHenry, was named to the Dean's list at Georgia Tech for the fall quarter of 1975. He compiled a grade point average of 3.0 (B) or better to attain the honor. PHOTOCOM PHOTO HELPING •PAWS- Jjjjp ml By EstelteAtwell You may have thought that the thick silky fur a cat has is sufficient protection against severe'cold. But, contrary to the popular belief that the cat does not suffer from exposure to cold, he won't fare at all well if left outdoors in cold winter temperatures. According to one of the veterinarians in our area, cats are brought in for treatment for frostbitten ears and feet whenever there is a bitterly cold - spell. Remember, cats don't wear earmuffs and have no overshoes. And a cat searching for some warm haven from the cold will often take refuge underneath or somewhere in the innards of a parked car. One such cat was.' brought in to him a day or so ago. The owner of the parked car started the motor, and the unfortunate cat was badly sliced. If you suspect you have a stowaway, better lift the hood and check. It's easy for cats to get lost, particularly house pets who don't usually wander far. If they just happen to keep going instead of staying in home territory, they may not find their way back. If you can't stand the idea of your cat out suffering in the cold, it would be better to keep him indoors. In addition to the adoptable animals listed here, the county shelter has a number of dogs available that would make fine pets. The shelter offers only animals of good temperament and sound health for adoption. You can see all of them Monday through Friday from 9 to 5. The address is 11608 Banford road, Woodstock. Phone 338-7040. The Helping Paws office is open Monday through Friday, from 10 to noon, and from 1 to 3, to take calls about animals. Their phone is 459-2641.
