Kroll President of the Northeastern Illinois Association of Snowmobile Clubs died early Monday January 19, 1976 at the McHenry Hospital following a heart attack. Our sympathy goes to his family. The sport of snowmobiling has lost one of its staunchest supporters and hardest workers. Harry had been active in snowmobiling for years. He held many different offices in the three snowmobile clubs that he belonged to. Harry's ambition of having a united safe marked and insured snowmobile trail system throughout the northeastern part of Illinois became a fact this season. Tvtenty three of the clubs in this area joined their trails and united to buy the insurance and trail signs. As a tribute to Harry let's work together to build an even better and safer trail system, get the trouble makers in line and keep snowmobiling a clean healthy sport to be enjoyed by all at the expense of no one. THINK SAFETY Mel The VA earmarked a record $403.9 million for construction of new health facilities or ex pansion of existing health care units in 1975. More than 91 per cent of the patients were treated in VA hospitals and on an average day 173,630 veterans were cared for. Outpatient care increased by 19 per cent to a. total of 14,630,000 visits to VA staff or private doctors on a fee basis. to tie the game at 30 all at the intermission. We would question the wisdom of a man who used the eggs from his most efficient layers for market, and the eggs from his poorest layers for hatching purposes. Richmond Road McHenry, Illinois 60050 815-385-1333 (Pub. Wed & Fri., Jan. 28,30 and Feb. 4, 1976) "We expect to continue to work under the policy that the patient is the most important person in the hospital." So asserted Bert Hanson, executive director of Memorial Hospital for McHenry County, who marks his twentieth year as head of the county-wide hospital at Woodstock this year. Hanson voiced his emphasis on patient care at the annual meeting of the hospital's association last week "We have prided ourselves in providing excellent patient care, and I believe the reason is that we have an excellent nursing staff," he continued. "I would be happy to com pare the nursing care given at our hospital with any hospital. Our hospital-based physicians , continue to be a major asset to the hospital in the over-all care of patients and in the on-going continuing education program of the medical staff." He referred to Dr. Dan Horan, radiologist; Dr. Frank Elmudesi, pathologist, and Dr. Sved Hasan, anesthesiologist. Hanson reported the physical therapy and inhalation therapy departments have doubled their services during the past year and are serving both outpatients as well as patients who are hospitalized. • Hanson warned the long- range planning committee must become more active because administrative per sonnel are finding shortages of space for certain functions and the hospital facility must be kept up-to-date to be on top of advancements in medical care. Referring to annual report data, Hanson noted the per centage of occupancy was below the preceding year by about five per cent, but many of the other services increased "This is in keeping with the national trend to shorten the stay of patients and to treat more patients on an outpatient basis. We have been able to accomplish this with the cooperation of the medical staff," he reported, i Dr. Ray Pensinger, chief of the medical staff, reported on several developments that mean better patient care. He said all departments are in volved in what he called medical audits. "We are constantly analyzing care rendered and searching ways to improve it." he said. Related is the program of utilization review. The hospital has a registered nurse who is a full-time employee to review patient charts and discuss the best use of facilities, staff members' time and equipment "This has lowered occupancy somewhat but reduces coat to patients while we provide good care," he asserted The obstetrical department is using newly-acquired fetal monitoring system when needed-about 10 per cent of the cases Richard Zieman, McHenry. was reelected president at the board s re organization meeting.' Other officers reelected following the annual meeting were Kenneth Schuh. first vice-president, Donald J. Coont^. second vice president; ^William - Caldwell, Jr., ' secretary; and Wayne L.
