PACE I • PLAINDEALER-FRIDAY. FEBRUARY ft. 117ft Busy Weekend Faces Warriors By Dick Rabbitt The McHenry High Warriors have another important North Suburban game on tap tonight when they travel to Zion to take on the ZeeBees It is indeed a must game for the Warriors, because a defeat would give them three in the North Suburban and just a little too much handicap to overcome The ZeeBees are coached by Phil Judson no stranger to local fans Phil is back in the area after a six year absence in Adrian Michigan The ZeeBees are tied with Libertyviile and North Chicago for the lead sporting a 7 and 1 record., Judson has two lettermen. Abe Woods and his son Rob Judson They are the key to the ZeeBee attack and are probably two of the finest players in the conference Both are averaging over 20 points per game this season Last week these two com bined for 55 of\ the 63 ZeeBee points in a wirt over Dundee Rounding out the starting five are Juniors Jeff Davis. Phil Hannah, and Charles Fisher. Like our Warriors the ZeeBees have been sputtering the past several weeks Thev V had close calls against Crown and Dundee, and last Saturday night lost to Fenger of Chicago on their' home floor, which doesn't occur too often. The key to the game for the Warriors will be to keep the wraps on Davis. Hannah and Fisher Woods and Judson are going to get their points, but the other three will have to be held to a minimum. The Warriors will not only be out to avenge last years one point loss, but to make amends for their poor showing against Libertyviile last Saturday. I'm sure the Warriors will be try ing to break the slump that has been bugging them the past few weeks. If the flu bug stays away and they are hale and hearty. I look for the Warriors to rebound and bring home a victory. STREAKS HERE SATURDAY NIGHT Tomorrow night an old rival the Woodstock "Blue Streaks" will be at Buckner Gym The Streaks under new coach Jack Brenegan are currently the hottest team in the fyorthwest Suburban, winning their last five games and are in second place with a 6 and 2 .ecord Leading the Streak attack is 6'3" senior Nick Selchow who has been on the varsity since he was a sophomore. Seniors Mike Cappacio and Ron Geot both 6'4" give the Streaks reboun ding strength. Mark Shipley a 5*9" junior and Kyle Horner a junior round out the starting five for the Streaks. When the Warriors and Streaks meet you can toss out all records. They have been keen rivals for a long time, and it matches up the two top teams in the McHenry Regional which will be held the first week in March. WATER WARRIORS - (l-r) Brace FeUer, Don Opfer, Jim Marray and Jim Nelson, captared a first place for McHenry as they defeated Elgin in the 400 yard relay team free style event. This team covered the 4M yards in a quick time of 3:4ft flat, at the West Cam pas pool last week. On Tuesday, Feb., 1ft, the Water Warriors will travel to Woodstock for a swim meet against the Streaks. (STAFF PHOTO-WAYNE GAYLORD) Notice Sports Pictures Since previous notices < starting last fall) have not been noted, this will be run from time to time. Being unable to use the many group pictures sent in. a decision was made to discontinue all league groups except cham pionship teams. Pictures taken by our staff photographers of athletes on the high school level will be selected as to their importance. Individual pictures of various sports will be appraised as to their newsworthy value and available space. It was a flood of group pictures last year that made this decision by the management necessary. EARL WALSH So I Hear SPORTS EDITOR--! Bill Oeffling lets us know there will be a pancake break fast Sunday, Feb. 15 at the Johnsburg Community Hall. That's an annual affair that we have attended many years. Proceeds of the breakfast are used to help defray expenses of the Hettermann Softball team. It is a chance to see the boys in action in the dining hall. (Of course, the girls help them put it all together). We"ll be there Our search for the oldest buildings in McHenry seems slow Once in awhile somebody comes through with help. Mrs. Elmer Glosson let us take an abstract covering her home on John St. and we had fun looking through the various entries with old familiar names. Way back in 1840 the U.S. Receiver gave a deed to Daniel Own for 160 acres, the N.W. Quarter of Section 35. for the grand total of $200 That made the price per acre $1.25. WOW! Herman Etten brought us an abstract covering the site where his home now stands on Washington St. This building has history that will be of interest in our final listr Keep calling if you have any information on old buildings. George P. Freund will also welcome your call. Attended a Rotary meeting at Richmond Tuesday night ex pecting to meet our long time friend and classmate, Floyd Foss. only to learn that he is hospitalized in the Burlington Hospital in Wisconsin We have been looking for ward to having lunch together to talk over old times. Hope Coach Ludwig has his full team in good health for the coming weekend. He will need them. ^ The Warriors travel to Zion Friday night to face one of the top teams in the North Suburban. I1S 3I5 JII0 On Saturday night the team will be home to ^o battle with the Woodstock Blue Streaks. Rivalry between these two teams runneth back as far as memory takes us. The likes o' Ed. Bonslett could tell of that rivalry way back when From all we hear, the Warrior players are up and ready to put the two weekend games in the win column. They can do it. In previous seasons we have run reports on the McHenry County College basketball team Now we have a stack of box scores that date too far back. No stories with the box scores. Hope they will send in reports. We will run them. Now who's going to bake the pies0 A host of friends mourn the death of Joe Williams. "He was a great guy," has been the expression of those who knew him best. That's no fooling. Joe really was a great fellow at putting a tasty pie in and out of the oven. Not only his family but many friends can attest to this. Heaven must have a spot for a good, christian man. a jolly fellow, and a top notch pie maker.
