FEBRUARY 21 Lakeland Park Women's Club - White Elephant and •' -• RENAE DE ROSIER Renae De Rosier and Penny Broman of McHenry have been selected finalists in the 1976 Miss Illinois National Teen- Ager pageant to be held at the Holiday Inn, Decatur, April, 2, 3 and 4. Renae 13, is the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Poerter De Rosier and Penny, also 13, is the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. C.R. Broman. Also chosen for the honor were Linda Martin and Karla Myers, both of McHenry, whose pictures previously appeared in the newspaper. The four are the only girls selected finalists in McHenry count y. Renae's hobbies are baseball, Softball, basketball, volleyball and swimming. Penny's chief interests are dancing, swimming and diving, volleyball and ice skating. The Miss Illinois National Teen-Ager pageant is the of­ ficial state finals to the Miss National Teen-Ager pageant to be held in Atlanta, Ga., in August. There will be contestants from all over the state com­ peting for the title of Miss Illinois National Teen-Ager. The reigning Miss National Teen-Ager is Kimberly Ann Jensen, Caldwell, Idaho. Each contestant accepted will be requested to participate in the Volunteer Community Service program of the national Teen- Ager pageant. This program teaches teen-agers to share and to participate in school and civic affairs. A mini-modeling charm course will be given during the weekend of the pageant. The winner of the Miss Illinois National Teen-Ager pageant will receive a scholarship from Eureka college, Eureka, 111., a $500 cash scholarship and other prizes, plus an all expense paid trip to compete in the Miss National Teen-Ager pageant in Atlanta. A total of $10,000 in cash scholarships will be awarded at the National Pageant. Contestants will be judged on scholastic achievement- leadership, poise-personality and beauty., litere is no swim suit or talent competition. Eaoh contestant will recite a 100-word "essay" on the sub­ ject, "What's Right About America". French Follies To Aid Restoration Of Church St. John's parish in John- sburg is having the French Follies Feb. 20 and 21 from 8 p.m. to 1 a.m. at the Johnsburg Community club. There will be games, shows, an auction, and more. This is just one of the many activities throughout the year to earn enough money to restore the historic church. Through the years, many repairs were needed, but because of the lack of funds, only the most important were taken care of. It has reached the point whore something must be done, so the parishioners decided to establish St. John's Restoration fund. It's main objective is to earn enough money to restore the church. Pi Alpha Unit Pi Alpha chapter of Beta Sigma Phi held a meeting at the home of Virginia Stasial Thursday, Feb. 5. A transferee, Fawn Vail, was welcomed into the chapter from a Rolling Meadows chapter. Reports from officers and chairmen were given. The- social committee and members discussed the final preparations for the Feb. 14 Valentine's party. The dates for the garage sale originally set for May 8 and 9 were changed to May 15 and 16. Members were again reminded to save articles for this event. The Bicentennial, book display has arrived and will be presented to the McHenry Public library by Mrs. Sharron Powers, president, and Karen Kolomer, secretary. The cultural program was presented by Karen Colomer . and Dorothy Haddick on "A Woman Alone". Following open discussion, refreshments were served. Bicentennial Costume Ball Set In • Richmond The Richmond-Burton Bicentennial committee is planning a Bicentennial Cos­ tume ball to be held Friday, Feb. 27, at the Hunter Country club, Route 173, Richmond, 8 p.m. It will be\a costume affair with emphasis on the birthdays of Presidents Washington and Lincoln. A fine band will provide music for dancing. . There will be a beard- growing contest throughout the coming summer months and registration for the clean­ shaven entrants will be made at the dance. Lloyd Pickering is chairman of the registration and final judging will take place at the community picnic scheduled for Labor day. Mrs. Philip A. Borre is in charge of decorations and will be assisted by the art students from area schools. Ticket sales are being handled by Les Pryor. The Rev. Glenn Meusing is general chairman of the Bicentennial committee. The ladies are very enthusiastic about the quilting bee and hope to have it completely quilted to display and sell at the celebration. STAFF PHOTO-WAYNE GAYLORD MARINA PIAZZA Marina Piazzo Is , Honored On 90th Birthday Mrs. Marina Piazza was honored at a surprise birthday party given recently by her g r a n d c h i l d r e n , g r e a t ­ grandchildren and Mrs. Nellie Hepburn. Mrs. Piazza was born in Trabia, Sicily, 90 years ago and came to America July 7, 1966. She speaks no English. Mrs. Piazza makes her home with her only daughter and son-in- law, Gino and Marianna Visconti, Sr., and grandson, Dominic, in McHenry. Those present for the happy occasion were Gino and Bev. Visconti, Jr., with daughter, Jan; Sam, Judy, Angela and Sam, Jr., Visconti, all of Woodstock. Local guests were Joe, Rosa, Anna, Anza, An­ toinette and Gina Visconti, as well as Frank, Lil and Fran Visconti, Jr., and Aunt Nellie Hepburn. The party was held at the senior Gino Viscontis of McHenry and was complete with a beautiful birthday cake with the inscription "Buon Compleanno", "happy bir­ thday" in Italian.
