j. On Jht Sidelines * Ok* RUMft >. " | Tonight is Orange Night at the Warrior basketball game •.against Barrington. Last years venture into this effort .wssa complete success, with a huge crowd rootii* the •Warriors on to win over Crystal ::i * «'s a.|on8 way from St Patrick's Day, so you Irish can jolly well wear a bit of the Qringe. Any wearing of a bit of . Orange will be appreciated by the Warriors. Expect to see :-;some far out outfits, and S.I.H. has promised to break :. down against his better judgement and wear orange. *- . The Warriors snapped back and played some good basketball the past weekend. In a losing cause to the Zeebees they gave it all they had, and you can't expect any more. It was a tough one to lose, the opportunities were there, but the Warriors jv^pt couldn't lake advantage to it. They really stunned Woodstock on Saturday night Scoring 31 pts. in the opening period put the game out of reach. At one time they outscored the Streaks 25 to 2 in one stretch. Let's hope they can keep it up the rest of the season. Coach Marty Sobczak has high hopes for some of his "Hassling Warriors" this weekend at the Antioch District , Although they were a disappointing ninth in the § conference meet last weekend, there were some bright > spots in the picture. Injuries and the flu bug have hit the Warriors very hard. It is one of those things that coaches hope won't happen, but at times they do. All you can do is < shrug them off and do the best that you can do. Warrior : fans wish them the best of luck this weekend. ?"cHenry High School is hosting the Regional . Tournament this year. Seeded number one the Warriors will open tourney play on Tuesday, March 2nd playing Hononegah of Rock ton at 7:30 P.M. on Wednesday, March 3rd Woodstock will play Belvidere, with winners advancing to the finals at 7:30 p.m. on Friday, March 5th. The I.H.S.A. has levied penalties against players and school for actions taken this past winter. Probably hurt the hardest was Chicago Phillips because of their forfeit of a game at Gary, Indiana. Next year they can play only in the Public League in Chicago, and no downstate games. According to reports it will mean a loss of revenue of about $1,000 to the Phillips athletic program. It should be a lesson for all teams to fulfill their contract. Also a parent was barred from attending any more I athletic contests this year in Champaign because of an II incident with an official. Former trade star at McHenry High, John Mclnenery, ran a 4:19 mile for Eastern Illinois U last week. This is by n far his best time, and being only a freshmen, we can look for a lot of improvement from John. Along with Ken Swanson and Dave Luckett I attended ' the Illinois High School Baseball Coaches clinic last Saturday at Proviso West High School. Featured speaker was the "Splendid Splinter" Ted Williams. Admitting he was 57 years (rid, the old master looked as if he was ready for spring training immediately. He had about 600 coaches spellbound with his talk on the art of Hitting. He talked for two hours on hitting, and some comments were that he probably could talk that long on pitching, as he related how he studied every pitcher he ever faced. It was a most enjoyable session to say the least and just too bad that high school squads were forbidden to attend because of I.H.S.A. rules. Going down memory lane once again let's look back to the 1958-59 season when the Warriors defeated Barrington t in double overtime 66 to64. With the Warriors playing host to the Broncos tonight, maybe this game will stir a few i memories for you fans of long ago. JANUARY, 1950 I* \<ifC 7 . PLAPIDEALJEJl-nttDAY, FEBRUARY 13. On Saturday Mark Ziszik scored 12 pts. and Russ Ozminski added 9 pts. to the winning effort. Scott Dixon and Don Bentz shared scoring honors in the Warriors second victory over Zion Benton this season as they each carded 15 pts. On Monday the frosh met an inspired and hot shooting Blue Streak squad at Woodstock. Scott Dixon had his best of fensive effort of the season as he tallied 24 pts. Jim Scully made several impressive passes to Don Bentz for key assists. Don Bentz again dominated the boards for the Warriors. FRESHMEN Ken Zeller Speaks For Half Time Fun At Sports Events Barrington with a 106 pts. nooed out Ubertyville who had 1034 for the North Suburban wrestling championship held at Dundee last Friday and Saturday. The Warriors finished 9th with 30 points. The Warriors Don Freund at 126 fought his way to the finals only to lose a close 2 to 0 decision to the champion Jim Adams of Barrington. Howie Useman at 119 lost his consolation match to Bill Myers of North Chicago 5.to 2. Going into the finals 12 points separated the top four teams, and only 7 points separated the top three teams. Coach Sobcsak waa quite pleaaed with his performers, the competition was very strong, and his squad was made up of quite a few un derclassman. During this paat season Coach Sobcsak has given quite a few boys the opportunity to wrestle, and only throe have not scored enough pointa to win a major letter. When you think of the numbers, this is quite an accomplishment Next Friday and Saturday it is back to the grind for the "Rassling Warriors" again aa they travel to Antioch for the District meet. I'm speaking of the terrific Varsity Pom Pom Squad and their routines. Sometimes precision marching formations and kicklines, sometimes amusing and comical antics as was last week Friday's routine done attired in pajamas along with stuffed animals and lolipops. The choreography of these clever maneuvers done by Carolyn Mierzwa and the performance of the squad consisting of: Captain: Karyl Bryniarkski, Captain: Debbie Carro, Terri Smith, Ann Larkin, Cathy Gattone, Mary Elliott, Renee Freund, Mary Goetschel. Tammy Bieschke, Meg Huemann, Kelly Staley, Joan Lingeman, Clair Higgins and Diane Eschner is one of the evenings highlights. All this under the capable direction of Mr. John Leighty and his band. What will they surprise the spectators with at the next game. BE THERE AND SEE!! Mr Kenneth Zeller rolled a 198 (or high game and W. Coari racked up a 346 for high aeries. There is still a two-way tie for first place with "The Bowlers" and "Spare Parts" sharing honors, but there is no tie for last as "Phoenix" seems to like that spot. It was still interesting that the mighty tumbled a bit and the losers managed to pull a few out. W. Farrell seems to have recovered from last week and great i Miller as she got a 180 and a 458 for both high game and high series. No averages were raised significantly, but W.
