Koerber's basket was good as he hit for 18 points in the McHenry conference win over Crown. This game ended the regular season play for the Warriors and the "win increased their winning streak to Ave, and their overall record to 21-4. The Warriors totaled, 1,781 points for the season and held their opponents' to 1,458. r (STAFF PHOTO-WAYNE GAYLORD) By Dick Rabbitt The McHenry High Warriors won their 2lst game of the year in defeating Crown in the 's final game 79 to 61 last Friday night at Crown. Using the full court press and a tenacious defense the Warriors galloped out to an early 8 to 0 lead and were never threatened thereafter during the game. Brian Lund senior center got the Warriors on the board at 7:35 with a jump shot, and the Warriors were off and rolling along in the game. Reilly and Koerber's baskets seconds later, and again the big guy Steve with another layup had the * Warriors in front 8 to 0 before Crown knew what hit them. The onslaughter con tinued for the Warriors, although Crown came back to whittle the score down to an 18 to 11 deficit at the end of the period. * The second quarter was all McHenry. The famous fast break was at its perfection as time and time again the Warriors went in for the basket unmolested. Koerber, Decker, Reilly, Miller, Hertel and Hurckes all scored in the second period and the Warriors went off at intermission leading 42 to 21. After the intermission the Warriors were content to play the string out. Yes, they managed to score and at one time built up a 25 point margin, but however they could not, or would not put the game away. With everyone scoring but Tomm Ludwig, who spent some time on the bench in foul trouble, the Warriors were outscored 19 to 18 in the period and led 60 to 40 going into the final stanza. The final period was more of the same, the Warriors con tinued to hang on to their 20 point lead, and Coach Ludwig getting his seniors into the game, managed to hold their own, although being outscored 21 to 19, hung in there for the big win, and the 21st of the season. Again the Warriors played three quarters of good basketball. But with tour nament time coming around it will take four quarters of basketball every game to win. Let's not forget that the Warriors are a good ball cldb. Diving away from them sounds more sensible. Big time sports are cockeyed. Now we have baseball up in the air. The killer instinct is not there, many a time this season the Warriors could have wrapped up the game early, but became careless and although they won by a sizeable margin, left the fans wondering, but a win is a win and years from now no one will remember the score, only that the Warriors won the game.
