Or have you shied away from chocolate because of the high calorie content? You needn't do either if you use a new "old food." Carob in recipes gives you that chocolate flavor without the high fat and calorie content. Carob comes from the pod of the carob tree and is sometimes called "St. Johns bread". It contains no hydrogenated fats or highly refined sugars. You may buy it in candy bars, powder form, and in nuggets for cookies. It also comes in an instant form that can be mixed with milk as a beverage. Look for carob in health food stores and in some of the larger super markets. In sponge cakes it can also be used just like all-purpose wheat flour, provided the tem perature does not exceed 300 degrees F. as it scorches easily. The University of Illinois Extension office has some recipes for its use. "After ratification of the Eq^al Rights amendment, the State of Ohio established a commission to study its im plementation The Commission report was made in July. 1975 "Along with other recom mendations was the astonishing report that ERA would require the State of Ohio to establish child care centers, tax supported, universally available, night and day, every day of the week for all children of Ohio. "The cost of such a program would be astronomical. The largest portion of our property tax dollar and much of our state taxes go to support our schools which require less personnel and are open less than one third of the time as the proposed child care centers "The rationale for such a program is to give women equal freedom with men to do their own thing Families not using such facilities would still be required to pay the taxes "ERA will double Social Security taxes That husbands will be required to pay Social Security taxes on their wives for "services rendered' was voiced by financial expert Svlvia Porter 4-9-75 She said.
