Green St., McHenry GRAND OPENING NOW AT Crystal Point Mall, Crystal Lake HAPPY TO BE YOUR NEIGHBOR IN McHENRY COUNTY New Agriculture Era, State Expert Declares Making his first appearance in McHenry county, Robert L. "Pud" Williams, Illinois Director of Agriculture, said "we are entering a new era when agriculture products will not only be products to eat but will be for use in the political arena and for diplomatic purposes." Williams, a farmer from southern Illinois, spoke at the annual meeting of the McHenry-Lake County Pork Producers association, a new group with enthusiasm and ideas on how to boost pork products. "The ability to produce food plentifully is this country's greatest resource," Williams said flatly. "We are just waking up to the fact we must learn how to use it for our own United States benefit." The most exciting thing happening to Illinois agriculture, he said, "is pigskin." He elaborated to say that lightweight, soft fabrics are being successfully made from pigskin. At the last IAA convention, visitors saw a parade of pigskin garments which are stylish and colorful. Learning how to handle the skin in the beginning of the process is an important development through the use of a new machine available to pull the skin off the hog without scalding. "We'll see exceptional development in the use of cotton, wool and hide in the next three to four years," he predicted. , He answered qb^stions on ground pork and porkburgers, and how he believes the government should take its services to the people and not expect citizens to flock to Springfield for needs. He cited establishment of a germination testing facility in the state laboratory at DeKalb. As for changes in agriculture, Williams reflected and then said: "Twenty years ago who would have listened to a warning about a shortage of oil? I believe we should not listen to those who declare we can't run out of productive farm land. We can, the way it is being gobbled up for other uses." Burnell Russell, president, presided at this first annual meeting. 44 ADDITIONAL SPIESS CHARGE ACCOUNTS GIVEN AWAY FEATURING ALL SORTS OF MAGIC, AND TRICK ITEMS.
