Each year Marian's Guidance department analyizes past test records of the senior class to find students who show a statistical probability of being able to receive college credit for knowledge gaffled in high school. Credit >s earned by achieving the proper percentage of correct answers on any of the 5 general CLEP exams- English, Math, Social Science, Natural Science and Humanities. A successful score in any area could result in 6 semester hours of credit, with the potential of 30 hours if (all tests are passed. Thirty hours is usually the equivalent credit earned in one year of college. A student receiving 30 hours of credit could then save a full year of study and the resulting )2,500-$5,000 college costs. Although the CLEP program is realtively new, for the last three years the Marian Guidance department has urged students to take ad vantage of the educational benefits of their high school work. In this time, over fifteen students have earned full sophomore standing in college, with many other students receiving several hours of college credit before they left high school. Because potential difficulties exist with students planning to enter some post graduate schools, like Medicine or Law, and because certain univer sities do not as yet accept CLEP credits, not all qualified students participate in the program. Each qualified student's family is sent a letter in the Spring explaining the advantages and disadvantages of the program. Students are then invited to visit their counselor to complete evaluation of the value of CLEP for them. The CLEP test is written through McHenry County college. Further details regarding use of the program at McHenry County college can be obtained from Mr. George Cowgill, 459-6800. Marian parents wishing further information regarding their child's potential for college credit are invited to contact Robert Gough at Marian^ Most of the people who are in a hurry havcnoth injz else to do. legal Notice Legal Notice PLYWOOD MINNESOTA'S Annual Cabinets reduced up to 18% Save twice on kitchen cabinets.
