Iflt Spring Eva Freund Grove 675-2135 Club Members Invited To Shan Reciprocity Night After a delicious luncheon in an Easter theme and opening business concluded, the Lotus Country Women's club members learned that they were invited to the Harvard Women's club Reciprocity day on April 5 and to Reciprocity night of Wonder Lake Women's club, April 29 at 8 p.m. at Nativity Lutheran church. A motion was made and carried to send AW Van Every a plant. Sl$ has been hospitalized. Bicentennial chairman reported a Box Lunch social would be held on April 24, 6:30 p.m. in St. Peter's church hall. A birthday song was sung to members having birthdays in March. Secret Pal gifts were given out. Some of the mem­ bers are assisting in the Blood Drive. Project of the club is to hang new flower baskets in the town square before Memorial Day. The nominating committee presented the following names for offices of president - Dolores Ellefsen for two years ; Kay Smith, vice president for one year and Sue Popelka, treasurer for two years. There were no further nominations and the slate of officers was unanimously accepted. Kay Smith and Eva Freund were chosen as delegates for the Convention of Illinois Federation of Women's clubs at Palmer House, Chicago, May 12,13 and 14. Auditors will audit books before May meeting. Annual card party will be held in September. Events and meeting dates are to be planned for year books. The next meeting is on April 21, 11:30 a.m. and is the club's Reciprocity Day. All clubs in District No. 4 are invited. All members of LCWC are urged to bring bakery goods for the Bake sale. Program: Book Review by Eleanor Storrs. There was an Easter Bonnet parade and members modelled hats they made or trimmed. Awards went to Kay Smith (most original), Shirley Dawson (funniest) Marilyn Heckmann (prettiest), Mildred McCarthy (authentic), Pauline Horak (old fashioned.) On April 9 Fox Lake Garden club held their Installation of 1976-77 officer* at Holiday^ House, Ingleside. Twenty-six members and two guests en­ joyed a family style dinner. Physical Geography Offering Made At County College McHenry County college is offering a course this summer session entitled Physical Geography. It will be held Monday and Wednesday evenings from 7 to 10 p.m. For a fast moving, action packed science course, Physical Geography offers a wide array of mystery, suspense, violence, beauty and enlightenment to spur the imagination. A course to dispel some of the myths of the world include: Is California really going out to sea? Could there really be an Atlantis? Why go out to sea to avoid a tidal wave? How camping on the shore at the Bay of Fundy could be fatal; Does a volcano really respond to human sacrifice, or does John Coleman really know anything about the weather? Students will learn about naturefe movie stars, the violent tempered volcanoes such as Vesuvius and Krakatoa whose offspring became a tidal wave. They will read about the care and feeding of glaciers, hurricanes, and other pets of Mother Nature. All the above are elements of physical geography and will be dealt with in some detail. The course study will be of the Earth through the perspective of man and his relationship to nature and the environment around him. Installation ceremony was conducted by Angie Aluza. Slate of officers are President Marjorie Kamin; first Vice President Laverne Pertile; second Vice President, Elsie Thomas; Corresponding Secretary Angeline Klawinski; Recording Secretary Loretta Wanhala; Social, Mildred Sanford; Parliamentarian Kitty Ableman. Next meeting, May 13, program is May baskets and May hats. Members of the Lotus Country Women's club who attended the second annual convention of the Fourth District Illinois Federation of Women's clubs on March 31 were Kay Smith; Frances Heinemann, Marge Jung, Margaret Powers and Erma Raeder. It was held at First United Methodist church hall and luncheon was served by the ladies of United Methodist parish to ninety club members. Mrs. Walter Count , President of Fourth District presided. Awards were presented to clubs by chairpersons of the various department. Lotus Country Women's club received six awards. First place: Public Affairs (Safety Committee), Education; second place: Home Life, Public Affairs (Cultural Heritage); third place: Bicentennial and Conservation. A style show was held with members modelling clothes they had made. Margaret McHenry Girl In Top Rated Fraternity Deborah Malo, 3718 W. Main, McHenry, Is a new member of the University of Wisconsin- Whitewater chapter of Pi Sigma Epsilon, professional marketing fraternity, which was named top chapter in the nation at the recent national convention held in Dallas. For the Fifth consecutive year the UW-Whitewater unit received the national Top Chapter award, which includes a $500 check, a traveling trophy, and a permanent plaque recording the honor Whitewater's Beta Gamma chapter outpointed seventy- eight other chapters throughout the country, some located at much larger universities. Beta Gamma also took the top award in the Special Events competition for its presentation concerning establishment of two Junior Achievement Powers and Erma Raeder ot LCWC modelled Bicetennial gowns with bonnets to match. Madrigal singers of Pecatonica high school entertained. Guest speaker was Mrs. E.C. Greenway, Illinois Federation President. Mrs. Greenway also installed the new officers of Fourth District - President Mrs. Albert Stilling; First Vice President Mrs. Woodrow Kemp; Second Vice President Mrs. Eli Clausius; Treasurer Mrs. Jack Moore; Secretary Mrs. Frank Dusak. companies in the Whitewater community, and it won the annual Participation Award trophy based on total mileage traveled to the convention. Miss Malo was initiated into membership March 13. Teacher Of The Week (District 15j SSEHiSa NANCY SANDERS Mrs. Nancy Sanders is a fourth grade teacher at Edgebrook school. She is a graduate of Greenville college and has taken graduate studies from LaVerne and National colleges. She was recently chosen one of the Outstanding Elementary Teachers of the year.
