At this point the White Sox have clobbered the champion Boston Red Sox 10 to 4 behind stout Wilbur Wood. Wilbur has now pitched three complete games, won two and lost one when his infielders booted the ball all over Boston. That is the same Wood who was reported to be on the trading block before the season opened. Another report had us believing he would be in the bull pen this year. Another player, Rick Mon day , of the great Chicago Cubs was reported to be on the trading block. Some fans like him. Some don't. Whatever your likes or dislikes, Rick has played a lot of baseball for his team thus far. Tony Noonan says we shouldn't mention that 18 to 16 loss the Cubs suffered so we won't say a word to anyboday. The odd part about that high scoring game is that neither team made a error. Further we sayeth not. When first baseman Jim Spencer first came up to the Sox a few years ago, we told our old pal, Walt Freund, that Spencer was a sure bet to be on first for the Sox for many years. O course, the Sox management didn't ask our advice and let him get away. Every once in awhile Walt would rib us about our prediction. Walt is gone now and we miss his phone calls more than a litUe bit. Spencer is now back on first for the Sox, hitting and fielding like another Charlie Grimm. Too bad we don't have Walt's phone number up there. •DAILY FEES WEEKDAYS 18 holes, 9 holes WEEKENDS 18 holes...8.00 9 holes...5.00 ENJOY ELEGANT DINING IN OUR CAMBRIDGE INN * FEATURING •Char-Broiled Steaks •Seafood Specialties •Superb Cocktails in our KINGS TAVERN OPEN EVERYDAY 11_30A ^ TO 9P M SUN THRUTHURS SAT 11:30AM TO 10:00PM M7-C411 ORAM LAKE A .6.00 .4.00 U A^KII OPENE -Ja FRI ft I •DRIVING RANGE -- OPEN DAILY STATE PARK ROAD A good radial doesnt have to leave your wallet flat. •46s8 Buy Phillips 66 glas6-belted Radial II. 2 polyester cord radial body plies plus 2 fiberglass belt plies. RTE. 120 _ McHENRY, ILL Still think the Secretary of State's office should start a campaign called Eyes Right. It would be a training program to require drivers to watch signs. Bet it would cut down on accidents -- if drivers followed or obeyed the signs. There is a sign (in fact, two signs) at the corner of Green and Elm that tells you there is no right turn on red. That is when you are driving south on Green St. We saw a fellow stopped there one day while a driver in back of him blasted his horn and raised all kinds of h-- 'cause the guy in front wouldn't turn. Thought we might enjoy a box seat to a real donnybrook for a minute or less. Watching pictures of the floods in North Dakota makes one wonder why money ap propriated for moon trips and other less costly projects isn't used in part of such things as flood control. Anybody else going to help us with our list of oldest buildings in McHenry? It seems the Old Timers who could remember are all gone. There is one Young Old Timer whom we haven't contacted. Must call Clara Stoffel. Two men argued about which would take the only taxi in sight. One returned to his wife at the curb. "Why did you let him have the cab?" she asked, annoyed. "He needed it more than I did," the husband explained weakly. "He was late for his karate lesson." PICKUP-- Wealth is not his that has it, but his that enjoys it. Dog Team Jim: Why do you call your dog Baseball? John: He catches flies, chases fowls, and runs for home when he sees the catcher coming. By Dick Rabbitt In a pair of North Suburban games Saturday at McCracken Field, Coach Ken Swanson's McHenry High Warriors split a pair of 2'to 1 games. In the opener the Warriors won it in the bottom of the eighth. Tony Christy started the inning with a single to center, he then stole second. Ludwig went the distance on the mound for the Warriors giving up only 2 hits. In the nightcap a two run third inning by the Mustangs was enough as they hung on to defeat Lee Steinsdoerfer by the same score of 2 to 1.
