MAY It. 1WI Accreditation Renewal By NCA Supt Richard Swantz of McHenry high school an nounced this week that the school's accreditation has been extended through the 1975-76 school year following the review and approval of its annual report at the North Central association's annual meeting. Accreditation is for one year at a time and must be renewed annually. Swantz noted, "This continued ac creditation means that the conditions for effective education exist in the school." The North Central association is the largest of the country's regional accrediting agencies. It is a voluntary league of over 4,100 secondary schools, over 750 colleges and universities and 118 elementary schools in a nineteen-state region. Elementary schools Were accepted into NCA membership for the first time last year. The association works with individual schools to improve the quality of education through a continuous process of evaluation and accreditation. Dr. John S. Kemp, NCA state chairman at the University of Illinois., congratulated McHenry high school on its continued accreditation for 1975-76. Kemp added, "This accreditation should be a matter of satisfaction to the students and the parents of the school, since accreditation gives assurance that the school meets those minimal yet rigorous conditions for ef fective education established by the association. Through voluntary membership in the NCA, the school and the people in McHenry have committed themselves to quality education." Contemporary concepts of education are opening exciting possibilities to society. Yet even as the creative innovative processes reveal new horizons for both teachers and students, the need for evaluation of existing programs is essential. NCA membership offers both a base to evolve new programs and also a set of well thought out standards to be used for judging educational ef fectiveness. Terry Burton Plays Lincoln At University Terry Burton, son of Mr. and Mrs. Ernest Burton of 2919 N. A graduate of McHenry high school, he received his Bachelor'degree from Carroll college. Expectancy Increase Some scientists predict that 50 years from now the average life expectancy at birth will have increased to 90 years of age for both men and women. Ac cording to observers the aging in 2025 will be healthier, pro portionately greater in number, better educated, better prepared for old age. more experienced, more adventuresome and with higher expectations of them selves Wonder Lake Mary Jean Huff 728-0267 Dedication Of Rescue Squad Crew Praised Probably none of the residents in Wonder Lake appreciate our Rescue squad quite as much as those - who have needed their help at one time or another. And from those who have been helped, we often hear words of praise for the dedicated volunteers of our Wonder Lake Fire department. We received a call last week from Mary Jane Mogdans of Oakwood Shores, who suffered with a back problem that left her unable to move. She described the men from the Rescue Squad who came to take her to the hospital as "so kind, so gentle and just super!" - only a few superlatives for a deserving group of guys who do their job well! The Law Serves You Lawyer Referral Service Links Clients To Attorneys The availability of legal services is a much discussed issue recently. The problem is not that there are not a sufficient number of licensed attorneys available, but many people simply do not know where to turn to when they are in need of legal help. The Illinois State Bar association and several local bar associations have formed Lawyer Referral Services to solve the problem. In recent months, thousands of persons have called a toll-free number in Springfield, (800) 252-8916, and have been referred to a lawyer for an initial 30-minute consultation to discuss a legal problem. The initial consultation fee is not more than ten dollars, and it is advisable for the client to discuss any further fees if the lawyer's services are necessary. The Illinois Lawyer Referral Service was established in 1970 to serve persons who do not presently have an attorney and do not know where to turn for legal services. It is not a legal aid service, but is intended for persons who need legal advice and can afford reasonable charges. The Illinois State Bar association says in many cases, the legal problem can be resolved at the initial consultation; in any event, it is A-l HEARING AID SERVICE Free Loaners - Complete Service on all Makes Custom Earmolds-30 Daj Trial on New Aids Try Before You Buy!
