It served its purpose! Could all the churches in our town someday look like this? They could! Maybe they will... If they have served their purpose . . . if we don't need them any morel Even if you haven't been to church recently, I think you'll protest that we DO need our churches. We need the truth they teach--the faith they instill--the hope they inspire -- the God-given strength with which they undergird our life. This is the very point: We ALL need our churches. And to bring ALL of us to realize and fulfill our need . . . That is their purpose! Copyright 1976 K««ter Advertising Service, inc . Strasburg. Lashof, director of the Illinois Department of Public Health, has announced the department's support of National High Blood Pressure month. The month of May has been designated by the Heart and Lung institute in Bethesda, Md., as the time to focus national attention on the nature and control of this silent disease that strikes so many Americans. High blood pressure is a leading cause of death and disability in the United States. Twenty-three million people in America Jiave high blood pressure - one in every ten adults. In teste involving the black population and persons over the age of 50, one in every four suffers from the disease. Physicians also know that some women may have special high blood pressure problems associated with oral con traceptives, pregnancy and menopause. Of those Americans suffering from hypertension, less than one-half are aware of their condition; and one in every ten of those who know they have the disease are not under adequate medical treatment to control the condition. Dr. Lashof said, "If left untreated, high blood pressure may seriously affect the health of many of these people." "Uncontrolled high blood pressure," she added, "can lead to stroke, heart failure and kidney damage." Yet much of the public is unaware that controlling high blood pressure is an important preventive measure which can significantly reduce these secondary causes of death. Dr. Lashof is urging all Illinois residents to contact their local health department regarding the community detection and education programs being conducted on hypertension. C O N S U M E R G U I D E L I N E S Plants Should Be the Center of Attention: Containers should never overshadow the plants when making an arrange ment or centerpiece. True, the size, pattern and color of the container are impor tant but the plants should be the center of attention. The size and shape of the container will indicate the type of design best suited to it. Oval or rbund shapes show off the circular de signs. while tall containers Craig Grant To Lecture On Ceramics look best with vertical lines. Unusual objects like chopping boards, wooden cutlery boxes, butter bowls, earthenware jars, crocks, kettles and jars may be used as inexpensive containers. All types of baskets, pit chers, canisters, black iron pots and many types of pot tery containers make com patible containers for dried arrangements. Most metals, such as brass, pewter, iron, aluminum and bronze are suitable for dried arrange ments.
