Most of them did not follow the "Rules of the Road" for safe bike riding. "Anyone riding a bicycle should know and obey all the same traffic laws as a motor ist," says Wayne Lindemann, a traffic safety expert at CNA Insurance. "Parents can do a lot to help their children learn and use safe bike-riding practices," Lindemann comments. "For one thing, children learn from observing... how do you drive your car or your own bike?" He offers these tips for safe bike riding: • Be sure the bike is in good condition. Many local police departments provide a free bicycle inspection -- often coupled with a safety program and riding skills test. • Make certain the bike and its rider can be seen and heard. Reflectors visible from all four sides, a good headlight and a loud bell or horn should be standard on all bikes. At night, the rider should wear light-colored clothing with re flective strips on the arms and legs. • One of the most danger- This charming gray tiger kitten has personality plus. A bike can be easily damaged by stunts 2300 Plant Doctor Depressing sight, isn't it? And what is it we say when something old, familiar, once-cherished, once-useful has succumbed to the ravages of time? It served its purpose! Could all the churches in our town someday look like this? They could! Maybe they will. . . if they have served their purpose .. . if we don't need them anymore! Even if you haven't been to church recently, I think you'll protest that we DO need our churches. We need the truth they teach--the faith they instill--the hope they inspire -- the God-given strength with which they undergird our life. This is the very point: We ALL need our churches. And to bring ALL of us to realize and fulfill our need ... That is their purpose! Copyright 1976 Keist.r Advertising Service. Inc . Strasburg. But there are times when circumstances will require a change for them - they may move away or have urgent family responsibilities that preclude their serving as volunteers. At this point in time we are losing a few people who have been faithful office workers and hope to replace them with others who can work a half day (2 hours); a full day (4 hours); or a couple of days. No business experience is necessary; just a good telephone manner and legible handwriting. The duties consist of making phone calls to check on animals offered for adoption; taking phone calls about strays and other animals offered for adoption; listing lost and found animals; and keeping and correcting office records. The office hours are 10 to noon, and 1 to 3, Monday through Friday. If you can spare any time, please call the office and let them know. Phone 459-2641.
