Area Junior High Teams Complete In Fox Valley Conference Track Meet Three t McHenry Junior High Schools - McHenry Junior High, Parkland Junior High and Johnsburg Junior High - entered boys and girls teams in the Fox Valley Eight Con­ ference Track Meet held at North Junior High School in Crystal Lake, on Saturday, May 22nd. The boys' division of the track meet was won by North Junior High of Crystal Lake with 179 points. John­ sburg Junior High School finished second with 76 points, followed by McHenry Junior High School in third place with 58'2 points. Parkland Junior High finished sixth with 33 points. Outstanding performances for the local schools include Bill Hovseth, from Johnsburg Junior High, who finished third in the shot-put, second in the 100 yard dash with a time of 11.3, and also second in the 50 yard dash with a time of 6.15. Mark Anderson, of Johnsburg Junior High, finished second in the long jump and in the 880. Johnsburg's milers, . Wayne Besserud and Mike Davis, teamed up for second and fourth places respectively in the mile, and Dave Hanahan finished 5th in the pole vault. McHenry Junior High School had an outstanding per­ formance turned in by Ken Hoff who finished second in the triple jump, fourth in the 100 yard dash, and third in the 440 yard run. McHenry's Bob Bitterman finished third in both the 100 yard and 50 yard dashes. Mcjlenry Junior High had third and fourth place finishes in the pole vault from James Wilson and David Ramer respectively. In addition, James Wilson received a fourth in the 880, and Dean Howard and John Hickey placed 5th and 6th in the 70 yard hurdles.- Greg Mroz placed sixth in the shot-put. Parkland Junior High School was led by Horatio Fernandez, who won the 220 yard dash with a time of 26.5 seconds, and finished sixth in the long jump, fourth in the 50 yard dash, in addition to anchoring their 880 yard relay team to a third place finish. Bob Roewer, of Parkland, received a third in the discus, and Nelson Roltsch received a third place in the 70 yard hurdles. GIRLS' DIVISION The girls' division of the track meet was also won by North Junior High School with % points. The McHenry Junior High team finished third with 79 points. Parkland Junior High was sixth and Johnsburg Junior High finished in eighth place. McHenry Junior High School was led by the first place finishes of Sue Hutchinson, in the 100 yard dash with a time of 12.4, and Carrie Mortell in the 440 with a time of 1.04. In ad­ dition to her winning the Conference 440, Carrie Mortell recently placed first in the District and Sectional 440 meets, and competed in Bloomington, 111. in the Girls State 440, finishing 8th out of 25 girls. Beth Cable also garnered a first place finish in the 50 yard dash for McHenry Junior High with a time of 6.6 seconds. Sue Hutchinson finished third in the Softball throw, and fourth in the triple jump. Nancy Glick received a second place in the 70 yard hurdles and a fifth place finish in the long jump. JVNE t IW 3002 W. Rte. 120 - McHonry Awards Presented At Junior High Sports Banquet Last Week The McHenry Junior High School held their 2nd Annual Sports Banquet last Tuesday evening at the school. Awards were presented to nearly 200 students in the expanded sports program. , Approximately 65 percent of the Junior High School students participated in this year's athletic program. The programs are many and varied and include: Boys and Girls Basketball (6th-7th-8th), Boys and Girls Softball <7th-8th), Boys Wrestling (6th-7th-8th), Girls Volleyball (7th-8th), Boys and Girls Track (6th-7th-8th) and Boys and Girls Cross Country (6th-7th-8th). Also included are girls cheerleading squads on all levels and Pom Pom squads for 7th and 8th. After a welcome and remarks by Principal Fred Kusch, Tom Shipley took over as Master of Ceremonies.
