Brennan, American Legion; Mrs. Harry Koopman, chapeau departmental, Eigh and Forty; Mrs. Norman L. Sheehe, past department president and past national president; Mrs. Charles (Rae) C. Shaw, past department president and past national president; Mrs. Lynn Ranadell, national vice-president of the Central division, American Legion auxiliary and guests of the other veteran organizations. McHenry unit was announced as twelfth in the state in Veterans' Craft, having pur chased $1,714.40 of Veterans' Craft merchandise. Florence Black is the Veterans' Craft chairman. The McHenry unit was in eighth place in high mem bership with 376 members. There are over 800 units in the Department of Illinois. The Press book, made and compiled by Mrs. Jack (Pearl) Cooper, with the assist from Mrs. Robert (Florence) Black was one of five books in department competition and took the first place award. Mrs. Cooper had previously won first place in the 11th district elimination and first place in the 2nd division contest. The 11th district (our District), received many awards and honors. Darland, inspired young preacher, will speak at the Women Aglow in Christ luncheon to be held at Martinetti's, Route 14, Crystal Lake, Thursday, July 22, at 11 a.m. Since the Darlands have come to their present ministry in Seymour, Wi., the church has been in the midst of a spiritual explosion. The congregation has more than tripled. A very impressive memorial service was held for the 879 deceased members of the Department of Illinois. This included seventy-two Gold Star, sixty-two charter members and two Junior members. The convention ended with the impressive and beautiful installation of the 1976-77 department officers. Mrs. Jerome (Elaine) Murphy of Aurora, the 11th district, will be the new department president; Mrs. John (Lucille) Acklin of Dolton was elected first vice- president; Mrs. Sanford (Mary) Patterson of Lincoln was elected second vice- president; Miss Rose Marie Loparco of Chicago, reelected treasurer; and Mrs. Don (Margaret) Eckhardt of Ar- mington unit was elected as the new department historian. Invite Guests To Musical Evening Tuesday, July 20, is the night set for all women in the com munity to join in fun and song with the McHenry chapter of Sweet Adelines. They are in* vited to learn what women's forir-part barbershop har- money is all about - to thrill in the experience of music with the chaper's two quartets, "Happy Times Four" and "Musical Express". Other surprises and entertainment wtll be on hand for the listen ers enjoyment. Guest night will be held at 8 p.m. in Shepherd of the Hills Lutheran church in McHenry. Sweet Adelines is an in ternational organization for women. Its purpose is the singing of barbershop harmony and entertaining in the com munity whenever possible. McHenry chapter was chartered in the Spring of 1974. Since then they have won the Novice award in regional competition and Most Im proved chorus recognition last March at the Regency Hyatt house.
