r SERVICE NEWS Frank L Leary Completes Infantry Combat Training commemoration of our nation's Maritime heritage. The review included a total of fifty ships representing more than thirty countries. This was the fourth In- review spolto^«mja|ythe ^S.; the last was 1957 in Hartfpton Iwads^Va. His carrier joineatwenty-one v other U.S. ships taking part in the review. This task force, composed of ships from the Marine Private Frank L. Leary, III, 17, son of Mr. B.M. Leary of 514 N. Clement lodge, McHenry, has completed the infantry combat training course at the Marine Corps base, Camp Pendleton, Ca. During the six week course, Leary received classroom instruction and participated in field excercises involving in fantry tactics; the construction and camouflage of fighting positions; and the use of mines, demolitions and intra-company communications equipment. A former student of McHenry East Campus high school, he joined the Marine corps in December, 1976. Roland W. Wood Among Navymon In N.Y. Harbor Review Navy Operations Specialist Third Class Roland W. Wood, son of Mr. John E. West of 2009 Oak drive, McHenry, par ticipated in the International Naval review in New York harbor on July 4 as crewmember of the aircraft carrier, USS Forrestal. He was one of the 20,000 NaVymen who took part in the Navy's formal Bicentennial WHEN CAMPING -PROTECT- . * WITH tju CARRY-HOME' COVERALL TOP-QUALITY PLASTIC 260 sq. ft. of Atlantic fleet, wai led by Vice Admiral John J. Shanahan, commander of the U.S. Second fleet. Participation in the review is one of the most significant events of an on going fleet exercise titled "Operation 200." "Operation 200", a seven- week exercise, includes fleet maneuvers and missile firings. In addition, there will be am phibious operations, plus naval gunfire support and anti- submarine warfare training. Many of the "Operation 200" ships have Midshipmen from the U.S. Naval academy and Naval Reserve Officer training corps (NROTC) units em barked. The Midshipmen are undergoing summer training to learn shipboard routines and gain practical experience in seamanship, navigation, gunnery, and communications. A 1971 graduate of McHenry Community high school, he joined the Navy in October, 1973. His ship is homeported in Norfolk, Va.
