Gark's findings are based on laboratory analyses of nearly 700 bird blood samples and 1,200 mosquitoes tested between June 29 and July 30. Nearly 300 bird-blood sam ples were collected from the southern half of Cook county, and approximately 400 samples were collected in the downstate counties of Madison, St. Clair, Christian, Cumberland and Richland. Mosquitoes tested were collected from 110 pools in Belleville, Olney, Taylorville, McLeansboro, Carmi, Peoria, Greenup and Alton. Mosquitoes collected from Cook County are still in the process of being analyzed. Lashof said that public health officials are "very en couraged'^ by the negative laboratory findings,-and by the fact that, "as yet, no human cases of St. Louis Encephalitis have been reported in Illinois this year." In 1975, there were 578 reported cases of St. Louis Encephalitis in Illinois, and forty-seven deaths associated with the disease. ] I I jCof/ege Honors J COLLEGE ACCEPTANCE Maribeth Karas, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Bruno C. In an older unit the condenser coil, refrigerant charge, and motor parts may need expert attention. More ways to save. The idea of using timers on air conditioners is catching on. You can plug your window unit into an auto- ^ matic timer made especially for air conditioners. It works just like the kind of timer you'd use to turn your lights on automatically when you're away from home, can set the timer so that ur air conditioner comes an hour or so before you get home from work on a hot summer day That way your house will be comfortable when you arrive, but you'll be using less electricity And your air con : ? ditioner won't be running all day long There's one last thing you should remember about air con ditioners, especially if you're thinking about buying a new one. Air conditioner effi ciency varies from model to model, depending on what we call the Energy Efficiency Ratio, or EER The higher the EER, the more cooling you get for your electric dollar, year after year. It's easy to figure out the EER. Attached to every air conditioner is a metal plate showing that machine's watts and BTU's. To get the EER; just divide the watts into the BTU's. We recommend Art EER of 8 or more. The more efficiently you use energy, the less energy you waste, and the more money you save. And an efficient air Conditioner can save you plenty. e /
