She is a graduate of Augstana college and has taken graduate studies from IGSE and LaVerne college. Her class is reviewing some of the basic math principles and will be investigating the metric system throughout the school year. They will also be studying various health areas such as nutrition and dental hygiene. Changes in the seasons regarding the en- viornment is one of the areas of the Science program. Mrs. Fairchild is a member of the Health and Environment committees. She enjoys skiing and camping. McHenry is her hometown but she now resides in Mc- Cullom Lake. DAV Field Service Unit Will Visit Area Free service to veterans and their families will be available locally when a field service unit of the Disabled American Veterans (DAV) visits Waukegan Sept. 27. This is the third consecutive year that one of these 26-foot mobile offices has toured the state in order to provide free counseling and claims service to veterans and their families. The DAV Field Service unit will be located at Belvidere Mall from 10 a.m. until 6 p.m. The traveling veterans' service facility will be manned by DAV National Service of­ ficers who are fully qualified to assist veterans or their families in filing claims for federal and state benefits to which they are entitled by law -- disability compensation, pension, em­ ployment, job training, education, hospitalization and medical care, social security, death claims and other mat­ ters. During the first two years of the DAV's nation-wide tour with its fleet of field service units, more than 98,000 veterans and their dependents contacted the mobile offices for assistance. As a result of these visits, DAV National Service officers filed 6,000 new claims and re-opened another 33,000 claims for veterans benefits. Hold Member Campaign For Concert Series Membership campaign workers for the Community Concerts association of Crystal Lake met recently in the band room of McHenry high school West campus with Membership chairman Marilyn Scherer. Mrs. Scherer stressed that renewals had been received from many of last year's sold- out membership and that a limited number of applications for new memberships could be accepted. Members of the association will hear concerts by Longstreth and Escosa, duo- harpist, Monday, Nov. 22; Jeffrey Siegel, pianist Thur­ sday, Jan. 13; the Albert Mc­ Neil Jubilee Singers- Friday, March 18, and the New York Brass Quintet Monday, March 28. AH conerts are held at 8 p.m in the Auditorium of Crystal Lake Community high school. Campaign workers in the McHenry area are Hugh Locker, division chairman; Eleanor Locker, Marilyn Stanek and Karen Salman, team captains. Other workers are Mae Stinespring, WynCain, John Leighty, Bill Toalson, Brenda Love, Bertha Stange, Jeanne Hamm, Karen Purcell, Peg Stinespring, Janet Byrnes and Julie Jessup.
