Wonder Lake Mary Jean Huff 728-0267 Teachers ' "> * Meet For One Day Workshop R e c e n t l y , t w e n t y - t w o volunteer religion teachers from Christ the King parish met for an all day workshop to study the work of Dr. William Glasser. The workshop was conducted by Fred Kusch, the assistant superintendent of School District 15 in McHenry. Mr. Kusch, a former high school teacher, has worked extensively with Dr. Glassers theory as principal of McHenry Junior high and by giving workshops all over the country. The theory presented is generally a humane, common sense approach to dealing with people in a learning situation. All of the participants ex­ perienced a stimulating learning exchange. NEW ARRIVALS Jack and Kay Darby of Woodstock are announcing the arrival of a son. Brett Stephen. The big fellow weighed 9 lbs. at birth six weeks ago and entered the waiting and welcome Darby home Sept. 29. Both of Brett's parents are former teachers at Harrison school in Wonder Lake. Joan and Tim Gwizdala of Rockford announce the birth of a daughter, Angela Tamilyn, Sept. 19, at Rockford Memorial hospital. The little girl weighed 8 lbs. at birth. She has two brothers, T.J., who is 7 years old, and Jaret, who is 5 years old. Angela is the eleventh grandchild of Paul and Louise Marke of Wonder Lake. Paternal grandparents are Peter and Dolores Gwizdala of Spring Grove. The baby's mother is the former Joan Marke. Rte. 120 344-1695 " McHenry Large Crowd Attends Official Park Opening Some two hundred fifty people gathered at the new Spring Grove Park for the recent official opening. There were family picnics and games for the children. About fifty children participated in the games and enjoyed it all very much. Free pop, candy, bubble gum, balloons and prizes were given out to the children. Mr. Max Thompson, member of the Bicentennial Committee opened the ceremony proceedings by introducing County Officials present - Bill Russel, County Recorder; A1 Jourdan, County Auditor; Judge Leonard Brody; Judge Roland Herrmann; also Mr. Ken Fiske and the Trustees of the McHenry County Con­ servation District, and Everett Thomas, McHenry County District Chairman. Mayor Lyle Thomas welcomed everyone and spoke of further im­ provements including a canoe landing at the park. Cancer Society Plans Stop Smoking Clinic break the habit permanently without the use of pills, chemicals or any outside aids. A change of diet and liquid intake is stressed to help overcome and resist the distressing withdrawal symp­ toms of tobacco addiction. Registration for the clinic can be made, by phone, by calling the American Cancer Society office in Elgin or in person at Lundahl Junior high school, on the first night of the clinic, Oct. 18. The bazaar will be open on that evening from 4 p.m. to 5:30 p.m. solely for the youngsters of the village. They will have the first glimpse of all of the fabulous items for sale. Free gift wrapping will be provided for those youngsters who wish to keep their presents a secret until Christmas. Saturday, Nov, 6, the bazaar will be open from 8 a.m. to 8 p.m. Sunday hours will be from 1 p.m. to 4 p.m. There will be no late evening hours Friday. It was decided that all day Saturday would provide more opportunity to shop in a relatively relaxed, leisurely manner than trying to cram shopping into a few hours Friday night. The Swiss Chalet doll house, the piece de resistance of the bazaar, will be on display at the village hall annex beginning this week. Drop in and see this artfully constructed doll house which would appeal to any girl - young or old. OLD FRIENDS VISITED Alice Lawson journeyed by train to Minneapolis. From Minneapolis she drove by car forty miles to Apple Valley, a picturesque community of new families and new residences. One of those families is the Szerszens who have been living in Apple Valley since April and they have become very fond of their new surroundings. Almost all of their neighbors are new to the area too; therefore, the Szerszens have fit in nicely. Alice enjoyed her relaxing four day visit and expressed our greetings to Polly and her family.
