.'AGE 4 - SUPPLEMENT TO McHENRY PLAINDEALER - FRIDAY, OCTOBER g, 1976 No, One victim Trim Pacer Station Wagon Has Big Car Qualities A distinctive Pacer station wagon joins the AMC car lineup for 1977. It brings to the mar ket those same features which make the Pacer sedan a uniquely functional car -- asymmetric doors for ease of entry and exit, exceptional in terior room and comfort within trim exterior dimensions, big-car ride and handling, and su perior visibility front, rear and side. Designed with occupant convenience in mind, the Pacer wagon is just 174 inches in length (four inches longer than the sedan) and has 48 cubic feet of cargo capacity. A long liftgate, supported by enclosed gas cylinders, extends to a bumper height floor for ease of loading and unloading. Expanded standard equipment on Pacer mod els includes carpeted floor and door trim pan els, carpeted cargo area and split-back bench seats. Rear quarter flipper window and hidden storage compartment are standard on the wagon. The Pacer wagon and sedan, and all AMC cars, are covered by American Motors' exclusive Buyer Protection Plan. Number one victim of car neglect is the battery cable and terminal, shown here. According to Car Care Council, this part is most overlooked of all preventive maintenance serv ices and parts. Spark plug wires and radiator hoses run a rlose race for second place. Inc one to take a look at your car's wiring or radiator hose? It may have been quite a while, if you are typical of car owners re ported in a poll of 370 automotive repairmen. The survey, conducted by Car Care Council, shows many motorists tend to ignore battery cables, spark plug wires, radiator hose and pressure cap un til failure has resulted. In the case of battery cables, which topped the list of neglected compo nents, trouble is likely to take the form of starting failure. Especially vulnerable are the connections on the battery itself. Corrosion which accumulates on these surfaces can restrict the flow of current from the battery to the starter, resulting in symptoms similar to a weak or dead battery. Car Care Council recommends having these terminals removed, clean ed and covered with a protective coating at least twice a year. Books to order on car care A small treasury of tips on operating automobiles is available at minimal cost from the U.S. Govern ment. In the U.S., check the nearest Federal Office Building for copies or write to the Government Printing Office in Wash ington, D.C. Among the titles avail able for purchase are Au tomobile Batteries: Their Selection and Care (20 pp. 65 cents), Antifreeze/Cool ant (8 pp. 35 cents), Gaso line: More Miles Per Gal lon (12 pp. 35 cents), Three Rules for Maximum Tire Life (9 pp. 25 cents), Tires: Their Selection and Care (28 pp. 90 cents), and What to Buy in Children's Car Seats (16 pp. 35 cents). Are you scuffing? When shoes scuff you may not be walking prop erly, and when tires scuff they, too, may not be aligning properly. The alignment of your wheels in relation to the direc tion of travel should be checked if you're "scuff- Tin 9
