PAGE 6 - PLAINDEALER-FRIDAY, OCTOBER 8, 1976 McHenry High Warriors Host Mundelein Tonight Bv Dick Rabbitt The McHenry High Warriors will host the Mundelein Mustangs tonight at 8:00 p.m. in a North Suburban conference game. Mundelein is one and three in the standings while the Warriors have yet to dent the win column The Mustangs of Coach Frank Giannamore have a rugged defensive club, but like our Warriors have not been able to muster much in the way of an offense. Last Saturday the Mustangs lost a thriller to Lake Forest 14 to 6. They have dropped their two quarterback system they have used the past three season and now run from a slot offense with a flanker. Tailback Bob Kluga will be the main cog in the Mustang attack, and the senior back also plays defensive back, where last Saturday made numerous tackles to stop the Lake Forest backs from the long gainer. Although the Warriors lost to the ZeeBees last week, they did show some signs of im provement on their offensive attack. They ground out 58 yds. the hard way for a score against the ZeeBee defense, and not many teams have done that this season. If they can stop the opponents long gainer, the Warriors can be a pretty good tfeam. Their tackling must improve this week, but I'm sure the coaching staff is working on that phase of the game. The crystal ball went un- cracked for the second week in a row, and I'm trying for three. In a low scoring game I'll pick the Warriors to win for the home folks, and give them their first win of the season. Lake Forest should handle Crown rather easily, as will Barrington over North Chicago. Crystal Lake should defeat Lake Park in a non- conference game, and in another ding dong battle, will pick the ZeeBees over Liber- tyville. HOCKEY Last Wednesday, the girls' field hockey team met Barrington for the first of two games to be played between the tWo teams this year. It was a well played game, and McHenry and Barrington were very closely matched as was shown when the score was tied 2-2 when the clock ran out. In the first half, McHenry took a 2-0 lead on goals by Cookie Miller and Pat Stoffel. Then suddenly something came over Barrington and they scored 2 goals all within 2 minutes, making the score 2-2. And that's where the score stayed all through the second half as neither team was able to score. And then, of course, a tie breaker had to be played. Of the ten girls participating only the tenth one was able to score - and she just happened to be from Barrington. The entire outcome of the game rested on her shoulders and she came through for her team. And so that game ended 3-2 in favor of Barrington. But we get to play them again later in the season and don't think we're going to let this happen again! Warriors include: Offense, Janet Leinbard, Lori Harvey, Donna Lasko, Cookie Miller, Pat Stoffel, Sharon Smith, Mary Koleno. The aim of the 1977 IWBA hostess association has to be high to top this year's record enlistment of 2,554 teams by the Joilet Area WBA. The "Spirit of '76" drew a 304-team increase, but Decatur, last holding the tournament in 1971 and for 1,927 teams, is setting its sights for a 3,000 team entry. The 1976 individual events showed an even greater rise, all boosting the prize list to a new peak also, $86,132 Hilda Schroeder, IWBA tournament director who is accepting entries at the IWBA office. 1915-1917 W.
