Highlights Of Arts, Crafts Fair Announced insight m Swaim SELF INVENTORY , By Larry Swaim Each of us must, from time to time, turn our a t t e n t i o n i n w a r d a n d carefully evaluate ourselves. This self evaluation should be done regularly so that each of us can keep a careful check on -ourselves. I Corinthians 13:5, "Examine your own KATHY MANDRELL Photographer Kathy Man- drell, Genoa City, Wi., will be one of the outstanding artists featured at Winter Dimensions II, second annual arts and crafts fair, to be held Nov. 6 and 7 at Veterans Acres park nature center, 331 N. Main street, Crystal Lake. Gaining inspiration from her grandfather, also a photo grapher, Kathy began her career in high school and ad vanced her education at Western Illinois university, Macomb. While at college, her photographs were used as instructional material. From there, she became affiliated with the North Palos school district, where she was a part of the art education depart ment. Kathy now works as a free lance photographer and has been awarded many ribbons in recent competitions. As well as successfully exhibiting locally, Kathy is the NAAL photographer, and served as press photographer for UNICOM, Channel 13. "As I once served as model and critic for my grandfather, he now, at 93, admires and offers suggestions for my work," stated Kathy. Many other talented artists and craftsmen will also display tjieir work at the fair. Spon sored by the Northland Area art league, Winter Dimensions II will exhibit photography, painting, macrame, ceramics, stitchery, jewelry, and other excellent craftwork. Artists will be available for questions. The Nature center itself offers many points of interest ~ hiking trails, nature displays, and a relaxing atmosphere to enjoy while viewing the works of art. As the holiday season is approaching, the fair offers the public an opportunity to select unique and charming gifts. Refreshments will be served. Several Art league members will share their art or craft at specified times. On Saturday, Nov. 6, at 1 p.m. Jayne Kalk, McHenry, will free-throw ceramic pots. I Corinthians 11:28, "But let a man prove himself and so let him eat of the bread and drink of the cup." In the last scripture reference, the Lord indicates that a man should look inward each time he takes communion to make sure that his life is reflecting the actions and attitudes of Christ. Truthfully, a wise man will carefully study his own behaviour and make regular evaluations and corrections. M o s t p e o p l e f i n d i t difficult to see the bad in themselves. It is difficult to be honest with ourselves, yet, before we have a right to criticize others, we must take a critical look at ourselves. Jesus taught that we should remove the log from our own eye so lhat we can better see the splinter in out brother's eye. It is easy to deceive ourselves. "They themselves measuring themselves by themselves and comparing themselves with themselves, are without understanding." I C o r i n t h i a n s 1 0 : 1 2 . A common mistake is to look at ourselves as the standard by which we judge others| actions, but the Bible should be that standard by which we judge ourselves and others. The words of the old Negro spiritual, "Everybody talkin' 'bout Heaven ain't gwine there," are true words. One of the first steps in spritual self evaluation is to realize that we may be blind to our own faults; that we may have a distorted view of ourselves. The word of the poet, Robert Remind Farmers To Petition For ASC Committee Nominees Farmers are reminded that the county ASCS office is now receiving nominations for ASC community committee election candidates. Jim Lucas, county executive director, McHenry county ASCS office, encourages farmers to use this opportunity to nominate their farm neigh bors as candidates in the ASC committee election. The ASC election will be conducted by mail from Nov. 26 to Dec. 6. Eligible farm voters will be provided with in structions for filling out the secret ballot and returning it to the county ASCS office. In filling out a petition, farmers should be careful to include the name of only one nominee, the signatures of at least three eligible ASC voters who support the nominee, and certification that the nominee is willing to serve if elected. Petitions must contain this information, without it, they will not be accepted. The completed petition should be dated and mailed or hand- delivered to the county ASCS office no later than Nov. 1. Burns, may serve as an effective guideline: "O, that God the gift would give us, To see ourselves as others see ASC committee elections are open to all eligible ASC voters without regard to race, color, religion, sex, or national origin. Lucas explains that any con cerned farmer with an interest in serving fellow ^rodjrcers would be an asset to the ^SC committee. For this reason^ farmers are urged to petition for the farmers of their choice. TRAINING FOR TRAINERS The Illinois Department of Public Health last week an nounced a new program to train teachers who instruct nurses aides in long-term care facilities in Illinois. The ultimate goal of the program is to have one or more fully qualified trainers in every long- term care facility in the state. Nurses aides who will benefit from the program are usually responsible for the bedside care of patients. Announcement of the new training program followed a pilot project which found that such training is highly effective. Politicians who appeal to your selfish interests are seeking your vote. NOVEMBER 5,197K SAND DUNE ECOLOGY A sand dune on the shore of Lake Michigan is the site of Illinois Beach State Park's new interpretive center which opened last week near Zion in Lake County. Multi-media exhibits including displays, films, photos and slide shows, explain the ecology of the lakefront area and show how the^existing plant and animal life^developed over many centuries. The free exhibit will be open from 10 a m to 3 p.m. Fridays. Saturdays and Sun days all winter. A longer daily schedule will begin next spring. * * * * Human progress can bo boiled down to the mastery of emotions. The individual producer will benefit in the long run from a responsible, concerned team of ASC committeemen in the local administration of U.S. government farm programs, Lucas said. McHenry county has eight ASC communities. The names of these communities are i Chemung-Alden; Hebron- ^Richmond; Dunham-Hartland; Greenwood-McHenry; Mar engo-Seneca, Dorr-Nunda; Riley-Coral; and Grafton- Algonquin. Buy Now & Save!
