\ On The Sidelines £ by Dick Rabbitt Well it's official. The McHenrv High School will be joining Woodstock, Cary Grove, the two Crystal Lake high schools, along with Crown, Dundee and Jacobs in forming a new conference effective in the fall of 1978. The school superintendent^ voted on the measure last Friday. There was some opposition from the Lake county schools, but the eight administrators held to their guns and so next season will be the end of the North Suburban as we now know it. In talking with Elroy Fitzgerald, well known official and school board member at Crystal Lake, who actually confirmed the results to me, we both agree it is a wise step to take for the schools involved. Although the caliber of competition will not be as strong in the first few years, the long range results should be a benefit to all the schools. Let's look at what could develop in the way of the so called big game of the year for the schools. Crystal Lake and Cary Grove, McHenry and Woodstock, Crown and Dundee and Jacobs and the new Crystal Lake school which are only two miles apart. Travel will beat a minimum,McHenry to Dundee will be the long trip, and compared to traveling to Zion, Lake Forest and North Chicago it will be a pleasure for the coaches, players and fans. From a personal standpoint I don't think that one team will dominate the conference, as Barrington has in football in the North Suburban. All the schools should be competitive and that is all anyone asks of any high school athletic program. Selecting a name will be a lot of fun, already rumors are flying as to what name the conference should be called. I'm sure that the powers to be will make a wise choice in the naming of the conference. As the planning progresses we will keep you fans informed as to what is taking place. Congratulations are again in order to Mike Burmann, a junior runner on "Hutch's" cross country team. Mike finished fourth in the district at Zion last Saturday, and qualifies for the sectional at Crystal Lake tomorrow morning. Best wishes go to Mike, and we along with all Warrior fans hope he can make the trip to the state finals in Peoria next weekend. A tip of the fedora to Mike Shanahan and his McHenry High water polo team. Placing fifth in the state is no easy matter, artd the genial coach is really proud of his squad, and has every right to be quite proud. Bid farewell to John Bolton Chapel Hill golf pro yesterday. John is headed for sunny Florida for the winter months. He will be attending the P.G.A. golf school at Disney World for a week, then heads for his winter position at Seminole Lake Country Club, Seminole, Florida. His many friends wish him well, and will be looking forward to some of his money next spring. The Warriors close out the season tomorrow at North Chicago. It could be a good ball game. The Warhawks nearly upset Lake Forest last weekend falling 26 to 20. The Warriors will be out to win their third game of the season, and all fans wish them the best of luck. The cross country team finishes their season with the conference meet next Tuesday at Lake Forest. Again best wishes are in order for "Hutch" and his squad. $ & %eeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeet •x 8 FAIR SHARK Representatives of fourteen states met in Chicago last week and resolved that three federal funding formulas should be changed to provide more benefits for the industrial states in this country.
