Plan Christmas Program Historical Society Change Museum Holiday Tours The McHenry County Historical society, at its last board of directors meeting, decided to change the visiting hours over the Christmas and New Year holidays. The museum will not be open the Sundays preceding and folliwng both Christmas day and New Year's day. Beginning Sunday. Dec. 5, and until Spring, the Sunday visiting hours will move up one- half hour and the museum will be open from 1:30 to 4 p.m. There's no Wednesday opening. The society is making a study of the cost of the heat and donations are not expected. Donated items are coming in every week and the society is looking for showcases. Anyone lighting it takes to onen on visitng days, as heat is not kept on in the big Eckert hall, or in the upstairs rooms unless open to the public. It is hoped the donations on these days will cover such cost, but when groups of children visit. Linda Panning, Sharon Moy, Sandra Page, Yvonne Alton, Beth Johnson, Emma Ortlieb, Judy Zid* Laura Chelini, and Barbara Johnson prepare costumes and gifts for a children's Christmas program at Shepherd of the Hills Lutheran church, 404 North Green street, McHenry. Preparations are currently being made at Shepherd of the Hills Lutheran church, 404 North Green street, McHenry, for a children's Christmas program to be given Dec. 12, at 5 p.m. at the church. The women of the church are currently sewing costumes for the children to wear in their presentation. The Christmas program is being coordinated by Laura Chelini and Sandy Page and will present the true meaning of Christmas under the theme, "The Christmas Heart." Students should be present in their classrooms after the three worship services this weekend to be assigned parts in the program. A rehearsal for the presentation will be held Dec. 11 at 10 a.m. As a part of the Christmas program a mitten tree has been developed. If one accepts the challenge, then enroll in the self-study course offered by the Extension service. "Creative Cookery" is a self- study course to begin Jan. 1, 1977, sent once a month to the enrollees' homes for study at their own convenience. It covers nutrition information, food preparation shortcuts, tips on garnishes, advice on food safety, but emphasizes cooking creatively in your own kitchen with various recipes. Any interested person can enroll in this self-study course. The enrollment fee is minimal and information can be ob­ tained by contacting the McHenry County Cooperative Extension service, Box 431, Woodstock, II. 60098. Enrollments will be taken until Dec. 3. "Food for Fun, Friends and Fairs"; "Getting More Nutrients Into Breakfast"; "Cooking with Garden Goodies"; and "Getting Ready for the Holidays", are some of the monthly topics to be of­ fered. "Creative Cookery" is the eighth self study course to be prepared by home economists of the University of Illinois. Christian Women Hold Brunch Dec. 8 The McHenry County Christian Women's club will hold a brunch at Martinetti's restaurajit, Crystal Lake, Wednesday. Dec. 8 from 10 a.m. to 12 p.m. A special feature will be a county fair and white elephant sale to which all are invited to bring hand crafts, white elephant items or baked goods. A nursery will be provided from 9:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. The musical program will feature Jana Wacker, recor­ ding artist and former night­ club entertainer.
