The mailman is bringing Christmas cards these days. Our cards are not out and it isn't because we are waiting to see who still has us on their list. There is a big drive on this year to urge people to buy in McHenry / We spent 69 cents out of town last week and felt sure somebody would see us. The idea l^good. However, we all Khow that some money will flow into^ores in other cities To offset the out of town shopping, local stores are doing their best to bring people INTO McHenry The same goes for restaurants. People drive miles to eat in some restaurant that has a good name. \Ve hope our local restaurants can bring 'em in m other parts. he grass always looks greener in some other pasture. tror T We enjoy loc^l restaurants because you meet people you know. Sociability is good for digestion. Finally met John Busscher and settled up on baseball bets. Says John, "I like to bet with you -- easy picking". Our loyalty to the White Sox and the American League isn't a money maker. No worry about a crowded press box Friday night when we attend the first home game on the Warrior basketball schedule. 8 If you looked at the box score of the Barrington game, you can see how free throws and sheer determination won that game for the Ludwig boys. We always thought a good offense was the best defense in sports. It hasn't worked out that way. Defensive teams in football carry a big load. So it looks like the Warrior basketball team will have to have their defensive skills in REPLACE IT NOW! ELM ST., McHENRY 385-0722 Warriors In Double Header Weekend by Dick Rabbitt The Warriors of Coach Ken Ludwig have their work cut out for them this weekend. Tonight they play their home opener against the Mundelein Mustangs. The Mustangs of Coach Dick Starkey are the surprise team of the North Suburban at this early date. Led by all con ference guard Greg Boyle who is averaging 36 pts per game and junior center Don Hut chinson who is at a 20 point a game clip, the Mustangs are a high scoring team. Rounding out the starting five are senior Kevin Elfering a 6 0" guard, fj'9" senior forward John Klauss, and 6'2" senior forward Ed Rusin. Last Friday night in the win over Crystal Lake, Boyle scored his 1,000th point in two years for the Mundelein varsity. On Saturday night the Warriors travel to Zion Benton to take on the defending North Suburban champs. The ZeeBees are not the ZeeBees of old, and are having a tough time of it in the early stages of the season. & However, five lettermen are returning to Coach Phil Judson led by 6'5" center Phil Hanna. Jeff Davis and Charlie Fisher will be at the forwards, and at the guard positions will be Kevin Robinson, and Amos Taylor. The Warriors should be ready for this pair of games. Their comeback win over the Barrington Broncos has put new life into the squad. Down by 17 pts midway in the second period the Warriors rallied for a 69 to 67 win, and they would like nothing better than to add a pair of victories this weekend. NORTH SUBURBAN CONFERENCE BASKETBALL Scorers high gear Friday night to stop the sharp shooting Mundelein team. The Chicago Bulls are great again. Sports writers who were agonized with that long losing streak are now singing their praises. -- \_. r. The Bulls had enough injuries to knock "L" out of Kelly. An excuse? Sure. And a good one. Perhaps the press should know that Mr. and Mrs. Bob Adams, a pair of McHenry's finest, attended the game Tuesday night and charmed the team on to a sweet victory over the Los Angeles Lakers. If we ever had any doubts about how many people read the Old Time items in the Plaindealer, the thoughts have been dispelled. When Marie slipped in that story about our cow milking days. "Biff" Meyer wasted no time in phoning from Oak Park. Floyd Foss, Class of '23, phoned from Richmond and a big chuckle come over the wire. Wherever we went, the story came up It wasn't only the real Old Timers who read the item. Nope. Many in the middle and younger ages took delight in giving us the business. The best question of all came from a lady who asked Alvina, "How much did you have to pay to get that story in the paper?" Tomorrow the Warriors travel to Zion. Overcoming a 17 point deficit was really something to behold. No need to tell you that the Barrington fans, players, and coaches were stunned at the exciting finish of the game. The Warriors didn't quit under pressure and it looks as if they continue to improve, we may have another interesting season. Coach Marty Sobczak's wrestlers travel to Zion tonight. Once they get the proppr boys in the various weight classes, the Warriors are going to be tough. I'm afraid that the Thanksgiving holidavs caused some of the boys a weight problem. A little extra exercise will take care of that matter. Coach Mike Shanahan's swimmers are starting off the season on the right foot. Tomorrow they are at the East Aurora Invitational. Tuesday they ho6t Libertyville at 4:30 p.m. at West campus. To answer some questions about the various enrollments of North Suburban schools here are the school's enrollment listed in order of their size. Barrington is the largest with 2850, Crystal Lake has 2350, followed by McHenry and Zion each with 2300. Libertyville with 2057, and Lake Forest has 1873. Mundelein has 1600 followed bv North Chicaeo with 1470. Crown is the smallest with an enrollment of 1447. These figures were taken after the fall registration, and of course we all know that enrollments have changed since that time, but not to any great extent. One can see why Barrington is quite dominant, as they have 500 students more than their closest competitor. Oh well, after this season, the North Suburban won't have to worry about the Broncos. That is the Mid-Suburban's problem beginning in 1977. The American Legion tourney for the feeder shcools of McHenry high, will be held on Dec. 27, 28 and 29, at West campus gym. The Dec. 27 and 28 sessions will begin at 1 .p.m. followed by a game at 2:15. The Dec. 29 sessions will be held at 6 and 7:15 p.m. The annual sophomore basketball tourney will be held on Dec. 20, 21 and 22. Deerfield, Schaumburg, Marian Central and McHenry will be the teams. Pairings will be in next Wednesday's edition. Also there are three wrestling tournaments to be held over the holidays, along with a freshmen basketball tournament. We will keep you posted on times and dates for these events. It looks as if McHenry athletes are going to be busy. The Warriors will also take part in the Elgin tourney. No more long trips to Kankakee, and a lot of fans are thankful. Just had a phone call from John Bolton, Chapel Hill Golf Pro, from Seminole, Fl. Had to inform me that although last week was a cool sixty degrees, today it was hot and muggy, and he got in a round of golf. He surely knows how to hurt a fellow. Of course we who know John, know that he needs all the practice that he can get on the golf course. Don't forget wrestlers at Zion tonight and Warriors home against Mundelein.
