On Sunday, Dec. 12. 190 students took the first step toward becoming member of Marian Central's freshman class of 1977 by completing the SRA High School placement test at Marian. The total of 190 students was an increase of twelve over last December's total Again this year students participated from the entire county representing twenty- four different grammar school and junior high programs. Students who participated in the testing program will be invited to return to Marian Feb. 13 to complete registration for the freshman year. At this time students and their parents will meet with individual counselors. The counselors will evaluate both the test scores and the recommendations obtained from eighth grade teachers to advise/students and parents on the most appropriate Fresh man program. Any eighth grade student who was not able to take the test at Marian Sunday, but wishes to be considered for Fall, 1977, enrollment may complete a make up test Jan. 16. Free Coffee Sm,9Cf Area On Tollway Free coffee will be available at all the tollway oases for motorists on Christmas eve and New Year's eve, Martin R. Binder, chairman of the Illinois State Toll Highway authority, announced. From 6 p.m. Dec. 24 to 6fa.m. Dec. 25, restaurants at all seven oases will serve free coffee to tollway patrons. Binder said. The free coffee will also be available from 6 p.m. Dec 31 to 6 a.m. Jan. 1. The seven oases on the 256- mile Illinois tollway system are Abraham Lincoln near South Holland, Hinsdale, O'Hare, south of the airport, Des Plaines. Lake Forest,Belvidere and DeKalb. Caroling With Santa VIsit Over one hundred children in the Shores were visited by Santa Claus this year. Last Sunday saw the jolly fellow successfully deliver his bags of candy and toys to happy, smiling faces. The big man's visit was preceded by the Brownies and the Girl Scouts who went caroling throughout the village. At the close of the caroling, the girls were treated to hot chocolate and cookies at the village hall annex. Karen Novotny. chairperson for these" events, was pleased with the turnout and enjoyed everyone's assistance. Also on Sunday evening, Karen Amaro and her com mittee members traveled around the Shores viewing the homes for the House Decorating contest sponsored by the Shoreline club. The results of the contest will \>e in next week's column. The next meeting of the Shoreline club is Jan. 18, 1977. The club is open to all women in the Shores. It has been the policy of the water company to flush the water hydrants every Thur sday morning in spring and summer.
