Fifteen years ago, th' Christmas season was here, an' this ol' lady was feelin' a bit strange an' lonely, havin' moved t' th' village o' McCullom Lake, only a few weeks b'fore. Lovely white snow, blanketed th' landscape, an' th' sun made it sparkle like I hadn't seen it for a long time. In th' city, th' lovely soft stuff gets soiled, almost afore it hits th' ground. Autos 'n trucks make short work o' spoilin' th' picture, an' it was like a wonderful gift, t' see th' counts-side, in its beautiful white blanket. A ride t' town, t' enjoy th' fullness o' th' beauty, an' home at dusk, feelin' a little reluctant t' enter th', still, strangeness o' me new home. But, on nearin' me village, th' sounds o' Christmas carols, soundin' through th' twi'light, brought tears t'me eyes, an' it seemed like a wonerful welcome to this stranger. Th' little cottage, nestled in th' trees b'came a refuge from all th' business o' city life, which had been most o' me lifetime. Like a little haven o' peace an' comfort, it remained, until th' day I left. * Folks, who live in th' good places, far from th' rush an' push o' cities, may not realize th' wonderful privilege which is theirs. Fast changin' times, modern progress, an' the ideas o' improvin' things, removes th' good things, in many cases, substitutin' ribbons o' cement, modern creations o' architecture, distortin' much o' nature's beauty. But t' th' lucky ones, who may celebrate th' lovely Christmas season, far r'moved from th' dirt 'n grime o' city life, may ye truly appreciate th* surroundin' countryside, th' white, snow-covered landscape, th' sight o' shinin' stars, hardly visible in th' city, an' trees, trees covered wi' snow. Now, a Blessed Christmas to one, an' all, an' may th' comin' year bring only good things t' th' whole wide world, an' every human being in it. Merry Christmas, an' a thoughtful an' happy New Year.
