Saturday night found us watching a well-balanced basketball teafn from Liber tyville defeat 6ur Warriors 76- 48 in Buckner Gym. a The clock showed 5:23 left in the first quarter before a point was scored Marty Phillips dropped one in to break the ice The game was tied at 29 - all at the half, then came6 bad times for the home team Coach Larry Leon followed the conference habit of setting up a zone defense that you might call a floa^ef^ The posted behind the gym. Marge Cooper and I moved our cars to the open spaces and endured a cold walk On the way out. Bud < Honky » Miller had his son. Jerry, give us shuttle bus service. That really helped The press section was crowded, but Dick Rabbitt was absent We missed him Anyhow, he came through with a story oh the game. It was a whistle tootin' game. Suppose that wouldn't have been so bothersome if we were winning By Dick Kabbitt The Libertyville Wildcats of C'offch Larry Leon, broke loose from a 29 all halftime tie to blitz the Warriors in the second half, and go on to win 7t» to 48 The win for the Cats put their North Suburban record at 5 and Oand dropped the Warriors to a 3 record in the con ference Led by Brian Miller and A1 Reinboldt, the Warriors managed to stay within distance the first period as they trailed 16 to 13. In the second period the Warriors playing perhaps their best ball of the season rallied and knotted the game at 29 all at halftime Again the third period was a disaster. With Miller, Hurckes and Reinboldt, the big three of the Warrior attack, sitting on the bench because of foul .trouble, the Cats managed to take command of the game With Erickson from the baseline, and Matthews hitting from the outside, the Cats outscored the Warriors 25 to 5 to put the game on ice. The Warriors hit on 2 of 16 during this period, and from midway in the period were out of the game In the final 8 minutes the Warriors did manage 6 out of 15, but this was not enough and .ne Cats went home with their 5th win in the conference. The Warriors did play better than they did Friday night At times their attack against the familiar zone was at its best However, either they were fouled in the act of shooting, or a shot was blocked by the big Cat defense 1 It was a lease of a good LibertyviHe-{earn playing one of its best halves ijp recent years. The Warriors were in ioul trouble almost from the start, and that along with a 19 of 60 shooting for a poor 32 percent left something to be desired. On the other hand the Cats managed 28 of 54 for a nifty 52 percent from the field. Coach Ludwig has promised some changes in the Warrior attack for the coming weekend. It was the first time in three years that the Warriors have lost three in a row VARSITY Miller Schiller Reinboldt Hurckes Phillips Knox Thomas Durkin Totals fg 5. 0 6 4 2 1 0 I tP 12 1 15 8 4 2 2 4 HI 10 A l.ibertvville fg ft tP Erickson 9 11 29 Duruett 3 0 6 Lenzini 3 0 % 6 Matthews 7 5 19 Mat son 4 3 11 Leon 1 0 2 Boose 0 1 1 Cum mins 1 0 2 Totals 2H 20 76 McHenry 13 1 > ,'i 11 IX' Liberty. Most of the experts Oakland was good But. not THAT good! said Warriors through couldn't break Too bad the game wasn't closer since this was the largest crowd of the year First time we have seen them open the upstairs bleachers Since a fire zone has been We received a l()-cent check from one of those give-away plans Then we had to put a 13- cent stamp on the envelope and send it back. No other way we could win the big prize Oh - well, maybe the next check will be a big one Maybe. But, we won't hold our breath waiting for it Notice that our sophomore basketball team is following the varsity in low scoring third periods. Maybe our boys would be better without a halftime rest.
