Lady Luck Calls Avert Store Disaster A potential disaster at an area business was averted in the early morning hours Monday, thanks to the cooperation of some concerned area businessmen, and a little help from another friend -Lady Luck. When Charles Vycital went to his store, Vycital's Hardware, 1228 N. Green street, at 4:30 Monday morning, he discovered the pipes had frozen, and the radiators in the st6re were broken. The pipes apparently froze sometime Sunday, and that's where a bit of luck came in. ^ Instead of water running throughout the store, and causing excessive damage to merchandise, it froze due to the bitter cold weather. So, instead of having extensive water damage, Vycital was spared with just minor damage, and a large amount of ice. However,Tie still Uidn't have any heat in his store. And that's where area businessmen stepped in to help out. By 5 a.m., the plumbers had arrived along with other businesses Vycital called. With no heat, area businessmen and friends, gave him portable heaters to help warm the building. "It's business as usuaf," a relieved Vycital said. "We were pretty lucky we didn't have much water damage." Customers who entered the store on Monday were met with employees wearing coats, and, with 40 degree temperatures. "We got the temperature up to 40," he said. "The customers were all very sympathetic. "I had a lot of good help," he added. "The employees were all very cooperative, and the people I called all were willing to help. "It's not easy to get out of bed at 5 a.m. on a cold morning," he concluded. A final assessment of damages has not been made at this time. "There may have been a little water that leaked through the ceiling, and damaged merchandise in the basement," Vycital explained. "For tunately, we didn't get ex cessive water in the basement," • r It turns out, Charles Vycital has a lot to be thankful for.
