Church . * i Women United Church Women United in Lake Region have been in existence for only six years, but are known throughout the area for servi^p in the community and as sponsors of the Meals on ^Wheels daily Service to shut- ins. " In the McHenry and Crystal Lake communities volunteers pick up the daily meals at McHenry hospital. The trays have the hot noon meal prepared for each recipient, and also if desired, an evening meal is included for a nominal charge. Women from the area churches are in charge of the project but retired men also are serving in the program and are welcomed visitors into the homes of those receiving the meals. Almost half of the recipients are male. The average number of trays delivered both in Crystal Lake and in McHenry each day is twelve. Limited funds are available for those in need of the service who are unable to pay for the meals. Although there are some who continue to use the service, often clients are those who have just returned from the hospital and need a short- term service, or for some other reason need daily meals > delivered. Word has been received that new carriers must be obtained for the meals. The substantial cost for these trays presented an in^irmountable task for the Church Women United until McHenry State Bank made a generous contribution to help defray the cost. In Woodstock approximately twelve meals each day are delivered (and prepared by the hospital in that community). Lillian Bolger is coordinator for the Meals on Wheels program for Church Women United. In McHenry Mary Brannock and Mary Frett are responsible for the delivery schedules. Those desiring further in formation may telephone Mrs. John A. (Lillian) Bolger. The annual luncheon meeting for Church Women United is scheduled for Friday, Feb. 4, at noon, at First United Methodist church in Crystal Lakesr All , women are cordially invited to attend. No reservations are necessary. The president is Libby Podpora of McHenry. * Computer says chimps may predict quakes.
