& !\\(,K 4 - PLAINDE VIKR FRIDAY. FEBRUARY 4. 197" One of the breed named after the hospice of St. Bernard. St Bernard pass, Swiss Alps, where they were first bred, this young male is now lVi years old. When you want a big dog, this breed makes a fine pet. At the Countv Shelter. 11608 Banfor'd road. Woodstock, phone 338-7040. PHOTOCOM PHOTO HELPING PAWS Rv Fstelle Atwell We asked Ms. Brown, the poodle, what she thought of people She loves them. Ms. Brown said, but there are good and bad It took her quite some time to learn this because initially she thought the whole world was full of good people and her powder puff tail wagged at everyone she met. And she's crazy about children. Ms. Brown adds, but there are some bad ones. too. We explained to Ms. Brown that this is because their parents haven't taught them to treat animals kindly and laid the groundwork for un derstanding animals. Well, commented Ms. Brown, the pets' world would be a much better place if all of those who take the responsibility of owning a pet would apply certain parts of the marriage ceremony vow -- such as for better or for worse; until death do us part, because a pet wants a lifelong relationship. We agree with Ms. Brown. What a pet needs is a comfortable home, love (and this implies kind treatment), daily meals, proper veterinarian care when necessary, and perhaps some ' good friends. Ms. Brown has some fine friends -- the nice lady who drives a long distance to Long Grove to buy her an extra large chewy bone, and who brings* her doggy bags from the restaurants; the neighbor who finds graham crackers to give her when she strolls there for a visit; the friend who romps and plays with her when she comes for a visit; the friend who gets the butcher to package ,some marvelous big bones for her; the friendly boy -who delivers the weekly paper and rolls it with a rubberband so she can carry it in the house, all the friends who phone and always say give Ms. Brown a pat for me. , Ms. Brown says that maybe if people knew how much Sjin it is when pet and owner have rapport they would' do everything to foster this kind of relationship Helping Paws is doing everything it can to bring about happy endings for pets.
