PAGE 7 ?_ PL A IN DEALER-FRIDAY, FEBRUARY 4. 1977 On The Sidelines by Oi-h Rabbitt The weather sure played havoc with the high school athletic program last weekend. All North Suburban games were cancelled Friday night, and only three were played on Saturday night. Crystal Lake, Crown, and Mundelin did not play either night, due to bus problems <«and bad roads. Most of these will be made up at a later date. In fact the Warrior game at Mundelein is to be played on Saturday Feb. 19th. The winter sports season is beginning to wind down. This weekend at Lake Forest Marty Sobczak will take his grapplers to the North Suburban Conference meet. The following week is the district and on Feb. 25th and 26th the State Meet will be held. The swimmers likewise will be bringing their season to a close in the very near future. The warriors still have seven games to go in the North Suburban. From the looks of things it will be a dog fight for them the rest of the way. Barrington is probably the class of the league at the present. Coach Gary Cook has molded a fine squad this year with five regulars back from last season, plus the addition of Ike Pearson a transfer from East Rockford. The young jumping jack is only a sophomore, and from the way he played last Saturday night, he is going to be a great one. You can't count out the Libertyville Wildcats. Coach Larry Leon always seems to get his squad up for the big one, and on Tuesday Feb. 22nd he will get another chance. On that night the Wildcats host the Broncos, in what should be the game of the year in the conference. Both teams are currently in first place with an 8 and 1 record. If nothing happens along the way (via a Michigan) that game could decide the championship. The ZeeBees will be here tonight. Like many Warrior fans we were wishing they would have played here the past two seasons. Two years ago the Warriors lost by one in the opening conference game and went on to win 12 straight, however the ZeeBees didn't lose a one and wound up with the title. Again last year the Warriors were tipped by one at Zion in a real barnburner. Tonight's game will be no different. Although both teams seem to be out of contention, you can bet that they will go all out, and it should be some game. The Warriors are due against Phil Judson's team, and we hope it is tonight. John Mclnerney former Warrior cross country and track star, running for Eastern Illinois University won the mile in 4:14 in a meet against the University of Missouri. For the lanky sophomore this is excellent time, running indoors. This weekend John will be competing at Champaign, in a meet with the University of Illinois. If John continues to improve that 4 minute mile isn't too far away. John was an All American cross crountry winner this past fall. From all Warrior fans, keep up the good work, and the best of luck. Thought we would really travel down memory lane this week. Picked a game of 50 years ago. Hope some of the fellows on that team are still around to enjoy some moments of their past athletic accomplishments. It was a high scoring game for the times, and it looked as if the officials tooted the whistle a few times. DISTRICT TOURNEY AT DUNDEE March 10,11,12,1927 Conway Kinsala Barbian J. Fay T. SUPERSTAR There's a new superstar coming to Chicago Stadium. Dorothy Hamill headlining Ice Capades opening Thursday, March 3 through Sunday, March 13 suddenly became known to the world. Now she is the envy of every little girl who owns a pair of skates. A few months ago Dorothy had to spell out H-a-m-i-1-1 to clerks in hotel and airline of fices. ILLINOIS HOSTS TOP FIELD TRAILS Chicago, Illinois, January 25, 1977...Few people outside the field-trailing fraternity recognize that Illinois is one of the centers of this sport. Field trails are contests between hunting dogs. Already, fifty-three field trials at all levels of com petition with all types of dogs have been scheduled for 1977 by the Illinois Department of Conservation on state-owned properties. Nineteen of these trials, including the highly prestigious Illinois Open Shooting Dog Championship, are to be held at DesPlaines and Green River Conservation Areas in northern Illinois. Chicago Sat By Dick Rabbitt The Warriors of Coach Ken Ludwig will try again this weekend to play a doubleheader. Tonight they host the always dangerous Zion Benton ZeeBees at West Campus, and tomorrow journey to North Chicago for a game with the Warhawks. Last December the ZeeBees handed the Warriors a 68 to 58 defeat, and the Warriors would like nothing better than to avenge that defeat. Both the Warriors and ZeeBees are tied in conference pjay with a 4 and 5 record, far from the cry of the past several seasons when they battled down to the wire for the conference championship. This will be the ZeeBees first visit to McHenry in three seasons, and although both squads seem out of the con ference race at this time, a good crowd is expected. These two teams always put on a good show for the folks. Tomorrow night the Warriors travel to North Chicago where they take on the Warhawks. Earlier in the year the Warriors romped over North Chicago 87 to 71, but since that time the Warhawks have shown great improvement. They are currently alone in third place in the North Suburban with a 5 and 4 record. This likewise should be a good game, and all Warrior fans are wishing the team the best of luck this coming weekend. Last Tuesday evening (Jan. 25, 1977), about 75 moms and daughters met at West Campus for some activity and fun. The Girl's.Athletic Association had their annual "Mommy Wreck Nite." The evening began with everyone participating in such relay games as: hula hoop race, badminton racket and balloon race, jump rope, potato in a nylon, drop the paper clip in the cup, and others. The mothers and daughters then had their choice of playing volleyball, table tennis, bad minton, basket shooting, working in the weight room or going swimming. The third place couple for the "Bump Contest" were Helen and Mom Arient, second place to Sharon and Les Nye, and the first place "Bumpers" went to Jean and Sue Schiller. Later that evening everyone adjourned to the cafeteria for refreshments ; and a skit put on by the G.A.A. Board. Mrs. Lou Whitaker, (Nudge), G.A.A. sponser, felt the evening was a great success. The winning teams for the relay race are as follows: Tied for third place were: Team 4: Carrie Freund, Nancy Freund, Denise Dixon, Annette Pintozzi, Gerry Foley and Mary Foley, and Team 6: Becky Schaller, Pat Schaller, Sue Eichhorn, Jo Ann Eichhorn, Barb Grandt, Jean Grandt, Kiki Karris and Noreene Koerner.
