The early care is emphasized in the twenty-ninth annual Children's Dental Health month in February. A child should visit the dentist before all of his primary teeth have appeared. The average child will have his full set of twenty primary teeth by the age of 2 or 2'2. Because these teeth are so important to a child's fuutre well-being and ^appearance, it is important that they are well taken care of. Parents can help the child develop a positive attitude about this first trip to the dentist that will influence his feelings about dental care throughout life. They will want to explain in a very general way what the child can expect. For example, the dentist will examine the child's teeth. He may also clean them and take x-ray pictures to detect any hidden dental problems. These early examinations are im County Catholic Observe Special The McHenry County Board of Catholic Education and the eight Catholic schools of McHenry county are observing Catholic Schools week Feb. 6- 12. The theme of the celebration is "Catholic Schools: a Plus for the Nation." In a letter included in the weekly bulletins of the fourteen McHenry county parishes Feb 6, Father James Moses, area superin tendent, pointed out that Catholic schools, as the largest non-public school system in the country, make a vital con tribution to the life of the nation. "The same is true," Father Moses continued, "in McHenry county. In the current school year( our eight Catholic schools are educating 2,736 children." Father Moses cited recent research studies which demonstrate that, "parochial schools are a tremendous asset for the changing Church. They tend to produce people who are change-oriented and flexible, but secure in both their world, view and loyalty to past traditions and values." The research studies, conducted by the National Opinion Research center conclude that. "Catholic schools are more important in shaping the" religious behavior of men than they were a decade ago...the schools are more critical to the Church now than they were a decade ago." "These findings", Father Moses emphasized, "tell us that the Catholic schools are stili-HJerforming the historic t^fsks of academic excellence and religious instruction set for them at the Council of Baltimore in 1876," He called upon all Catholics in McHenry county to renew their com mitment and support of Catholic schools. The McHenry county board of Catholic education serves the teaching mission of the Church Schools Week through seven elementary schools: St. Margaret Mary, Algonquin; SS. Peter & Paul, Cary; St Thomas the Apostle, Crystal Lake < which observes its 50th anniversary on February 12); St. Mary, Woodstock; St. Joseph. Har vard; St. John the Baptist. Johnsburg; Montini Middle and Primary, McHenry One Catholic secondary school is Marian Central Catholic high school, Woodstock, which serves all parishes of the county. The area board also sponsors programs of C C D. (Con fraternity of Christian Doc trine), Teacher Training, Family Religious Education Program, and SPRED (Special Religious Education for the Retarded). The McHenry county board of Catholic education is part of the Rock- ford Diocesan Catholic Education system. L [ sTHt ^ leading the Sonics in scoring. The varsity lost by the score of 50-28. Ip the United States the layer of gas, which is our weather, generally moves west to east. On the west coast masses of moist Pa cific air comes from the southwest' and northwest, and are warm and cool, re spectively. The clear, dry air of the non-coastal states in the Midwest generally comes from the soutnwest, over Mexico, and likewise, the clear, cold, dry air that in- vadeg the eastern half of the country moves down from Canada. I n a d d i t i o n , m o i s t a i r masses from the Atlantic move into the east from ^Jth the southeast and northeast, being warm and cool, re spectively. When these masses of air meat, they often create an occluded front and unpredictable, but often rainy conditions. Generally speaking if you are east of a strong air mass, it will move over you and bring the weather pre vailing under it, to the west. F r o n t s m o v e a t v a r y i n g speeds, usually up to about 30 miles an hour. So, the weather you have tomorrow may be five hundred miles away today, in a westerly direction. Cheetahs Unique Unlike lions, monkeys and many other animals, cheetahs don't live in family groups. Males leave the females after mating, and mother cheetahs raise their cubs alone. The annual candy sale features three delicious varieties. Dairy Farmers portant because surveys show that 50 per cent of 2-year-old children have one or more decayed teeth. During the first visit, the dentist will discuss a program for regular dental care for the child, scheduling future visits to meet individual needs. Twice a year may be sufficient for som£ children, whereas closer supervision may be necessary for others. By helping the child establish a friendly relationship with the dentist, parents can eliminate fears that could lead to his neglecting needed dental care later on in life. Ponder Ways To Meet Price Deadline "The costs of producing milk keep going up while the farm milk price goes down. How can we continue to operate?" That was the opinion of fifty- five dairy farmers represen ting a six-state area who at tended the annual resolutions committee meeting here of the Mid-States Region of Associated Milk Producers, Inc. In giving preliminary ap proval to a number of resolutions, the committee called for the USDA dairy price support level to be set at 90 percent of parity effective April 1. Currently the support price is near 80 percent of parity or $8.26 per hundred. Industry economists estimate a 90 percent level to be at $9.60 and an 85 percent level at $9.07 by April 1. By law, the price must be announced at between 75 and 90 percent of parity.
