Water Quality Planning March Telenet Subject How ag-related activities affect state water quality will be the subject of a statewide March 3 Telenet program sponsored by the University of Illinois Cooperative Extension service. Representatives from a special"Agriculture Task force, advising the Illinois En vironmental Protection Agency (IEPA), as well as IEPA staff, will be featured speakers on the program. All major agricultural and environmental organizations in Illinois have membership on the Ag Task Force. Next year the IEPA must submit a state water quality management plan to the federal EPA outlining its method for achieving the desired water quality level. The Ag Task force is assisting the Illinois EPA by looking at pesticide and fertilizer use, soil erosion, livestock waste disposal, and forestry and fruit production. The Task force will be making recommendations to the IEPA about best management practices that might improve water quality caused by agricultural pollution. Participation in the Telenet program from farm leaders and anyone interested in water quality planning in the state is encouraged. The program will include a description of the federal ̂ legislation requiring state water quality planning, EPA responsibilities, and the Ag Task force's activities. The program is being offered at the McHenry County Ex tension Service office, 11909 McConnell road, Woodstock. Telenet is the Cooperative Extension service's two-way telephone network that provides a live connection between forty-six county and regional Extension offices and •.he Urbana campus.
