The preparations by mem­ bers of the college's Agriculture club are for the annual exhibit at the Chicago Flower and Garden show which will be held March 26 through April 3. The college's booth will be located at the far north end in the "Feature E" section This year's exhibit by the Agriculture club students will feature a 25-foot-tall Silver Maple tree, a Japanese garden, and a large area of evergreens. Flowering plants will include quince, forsythia, and shad- blow serviceberry. The Ag. club members (MCC students and Elgin Community college students enrolled in the MCC agriculture programs) raised the money to buy the plants and construction materials for the display by growing corn and soybeans for resale on a portion of the vacant land at the MCC campus, and by holding plant sales in the MCC cafeteria. Sales were held at Thanksgiving and Christmas, with another plant sale planned March 7, 8, and 9. The students and college instructors who man the booth at the show provide in­ formation about McHenry County college's Ornamental Horticulture program to show visitors. But they also spend a good deal of time answering questions about everything from aphids on house plants to the type of grass that i^est for a lawn. The work to prepare for the college's exhibit began last fall when students submitted suggested designs for the layout of the display to a committee of MCC teachers. Once the design was chosen, plant materials were pur­ chased. Students are now busy preparing the wooden benches and other construction needed for the display. MCC students who will work at the booth during the show will also have time to study other exhibits at the show," Barrett said. Solon explained some instructors have even based assignments for hor­ ticulture classes on the various displays at the show. MCC is one of several educational institutions with displays at the show, but it is the only local community college in the metropolitan area with a" extensive hor­ ticulture program. The owners admitted they pleaded guilty in federal court to soliciting and receiving bribes from two pharmacies in return for permitting the pharmacies to provide drugs and pharmaceutical supplies to the nursing homes. The scheme, according to the guilty pleas, included use of U.S. mails and concealing the true nature of the bribes and kick­ backs from administrators of the U.S. Medicare program. the club along with agriculture students. While the show is in progress the students will do demon­ strations of plant propagation techniques and of floral arranging for the show visitors to watch. This year's show has the theme "Floral Follies of 1977". Among the major features of the show are flowers and plants fr m around the world, a horticultural competition section, a plant society and area amateur exhibits.
