MARCH 11, 1977 For "You And Your Home" Improvement Needs...Try Osco! PAGE 3 Manager Neil Milan refers to his store as a "Pharmacy PLUS." And, indeed, the name cer tainly suits Millstream Osco drugs to a "T". First, and foremost, the store, located at 3720 W. Elm street, McHenry, is a phar macy, with two registered pharmacists and several ap prentice pharmacists available to help persons with all their pharmaceutical needs. But the store is much, much more than just a place for a person to bring prescriptions to be filled. And with spring thaw on the way, Osco can serve as headquarters for "You and Your Home" improvement needs. Besides its pharmaceutical supplies, Osco carries a complete line of home im provement items, ranging from garden, home improvement magazines, to paint brushes and garden, and grass seed. The store also carries hard ware, drapery hardware, floor waxes and cleaners, rakes, lawn edging, patio tables ...just about everything the "do-it- yourselfer" needs to whip the home and garden into shape for the long-awaited summer months ahead. As store manager, Milan has also assembled a group of qualified individuals to insure the selection of the proper garden and home improvement equipment, as well as being able to answer any questions a person might have concerning home and garden care. "Our number one priority is customer service," Milan said. "We take pride in our customer service and in employee product knowledge." "Everything boils down to the customer," Milan added. "If you don't have the customer, then you don't have anything." To insure quality customer service, Milan has developed a training program for all new employees, and also insists on cleanliness within the store. "After customer service, the second thing is cleanliness," Milan said. "I want my store to be clean." The store manager has also developed a manual with precise guidelines which employees should follow. It serves as a type of "textbook' for new employees. Milan draws several of his new employees from the local high school, cooperating with McHenry School district No. 156 in the work-study program. He explained how one of his employees came directly from the work-study program, and is SCHROEDER METAL CRAFT •WEATHER VANES •NAME PLATES •FLOWER BRACKETS •MAILBOX STANDS WE MAKE OUR OWN HAND WROUGHT METAL SPECIALTIES •ANTIQUES 1713 So. Osco opened in McHenry in September, 1967, and has always been at its present address. Milan took over as store managpr approximately five years ago, and has since strived to make the store more than a pharmacy. "We have enlarged the pharmacy," Milan said. "But we want to make Osco as much of a 'one-stop' store as possible." Toward that end, Milan has added numerous departments to the store, including its ex tensive home improvement section. Osco is open eighty-four hours each week to serve the needs of the community. "Monday through Saturday we're open from 8 a.m. to 9 p.m., and on Sunday we're open from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m.," ex plained Milan. Milan has been associated with Osco for over fourteen years, managing numerous stores, and has spent the last five years at the McHenry store. He enjoys the fact that the store owners allow him to run the store pretty much as he pleases, rather than keeping a tight rein on a store that the owners never see. Through this freedom, Milan has expanded Osco's product line to include toys, games, cameras, cosmetics, and, of course, an extensive home improvement department, along with the pharmacy. Milan realizes that with limited floor space, it takes extensive planning to properly display thousands of items, while still avoiding the "cluttered" look. All of the store's employees have been trained in proper display of merchandising, to make shopping easier for the customer. "It all goes back to the How to make outdoor projects quick and fun A wishing well planter can add a touch of beauty and in terest to your yard or patio without taking a lot of time or money thanks to new easy-to-follow plans now available. With the appearance of old, heavy brick, the planter may look difficult, but you can actually builcMt-yourself in a few afternoons. The quick assembly time and low $ost is due to a unique con struction, using plywood and Z-BRICK brand facebrick. customer," Milan repeated. At Osco drugs, whether it be for home improvement ideas or a birthday card, the customer is always the number one priority. It's the PLUS that goes with the pharmacy, that makes Osco a welcome addition to the community. The brick facings are less than ' /2-inch thick, yet they look and feel remarkably like their heavy, hard-to- handle real counterparts. The Z-BR1CK is applied to a simple plywood sheathing to give the wishing well the look of real masonry without messy mortars or concrete. Lightweight Z-BRICK. is both Fireproof and weather proof, making it ideal lor all kinds of outdoor projects, like barbecues and planter boxes. Available in several tex tures and colors, Z-BRICK will fit right into almost any yard or home decor. Plans for the wishing well planter, as well as for four other easy:to-build summer projects are available by sending 50c to Z-Brick Com pany, Dept MDPB. Woodin- ville, WA 98072.
